not sure if i should incubate my trays more
    #10848009 -

Okay today is wednesday and it has been a week since i made three trays with rye and jiffy mix. i see a little mycelium poking through... well, i decided to take the cling wrap off. After taking it off i pulled one of the sides of the aluminum tray away to see the sides of the rye and jiffy mix... well, i see a top layer of mycelium right by the jiffy mix layer but when i look down to the bottom of the tray where it is just all rye berries it has not re colonized.... there is no green but the rye is loose. Should i recover them and let them incubate some more? how much mycelium should be poking through?

should i bring my temps up higher for reincubating? i just recovered my 3 trays with cling wrap and would like to know what temp should i be incubating at???    so far i read to incubate at 82-85 degrees...

One other question is about the rye berries under the casing layer... Does the rye under the casing layer recolonize and look like it did when the rye was in quart jars ? because when i checked my trays the rye under the casing layer was not colonized like it was once in the jars... is this bad?

So did you wait for the spawn to fully colonize before you cased it with they jiffy mix? and that temp is too high. needs to be in the mid 70's to max internal temp of 81. After 83 growth rate slows down alot and at 90 contams have a bigger chance of getting a foot hold on your grains.

okay if you mean did i just put the colonized rye berries into the tray just by themselves and wait till that recolonized as if the rye was in the quart jars and then added the jiffy mix casing layer no.

What i did was got the 100% rye out of the mason jars into the aluminum tray and then added the jiffy mix to that and then put the cling wrap on it and let it sit for a week till today

OK, then i would just keep the lid closed until the casing gets about 20-30% colonized, then introduce to fruiting conditions. What temp you keeping it in?

well i grow bud as well and i do not have anything growing right now but i have a 400 watt hps light in the same room... i just turned it on cause my room temp in here is only 80 degrees. i put a blanket over the trays... what temp should i let it get up to ? also, does the rye under the jiffy mix turn 100 white like it did in the jars? if so then i think my temps were not high enough and i will go to 85 degrees cause it was anywhere from 78-82 degrees for a week. maybe at 85 for a week will be better... my first ever tray i had i believe 85 and i had rhizmo shooting up through the casing layer

78-82 is good, don't go hotter than that.
Leave in FC, no harm there. It'll colonize either way.

Which meter is 81.5? Thermometer or hygrometer? 'Cause you'd like one lower and one higher.
