I was about to head out into the mountains just now to go mushroom hunting again today, when I came across these.

They are really small compared to all the other mushrooms  I usually find. They were growing in the lawn in the back yard, so I thought I would put my trip to the mountains on hold today.

Could they be "Conocybe cyanopus"?
Any Ideas?

Habitat:
Growing In Grass/lawn

Gills:
???

Stem:
very fragile and small

Cap:
Makes a kinda cone shape

Spore print color:
In process

Bruising:
None that I can see

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

So these are Conocybe? Does that mean they are poisonous?

Should I do a spore print? I will wait on a trusted identifier. Thanks for the quick reply though.

Yep, Bobzimmer has it, conocybe. There are poisonous conocybes, deadly poisonous and a few active ones, that bruise blue.

A spore print would help confirm that it is a conocybe.

The Spore print shows it as being brown in coloration, what does this mean?

conocybe smithii looks alot like that and is active supposedly but is considered very rare and would be noticably blue to blue green or blue grey at the base  and grows out of moss always. the cap shape is wrong for cyanopsis and they would also have a blue base if that is what they are(cyan=blue). Definitely conocybe sp. though. spore print is right.

Conocybe apala or C. albipes, whichever synonym you prefer.

...or, for that matter, the older (but very common in books) synonym C. lactea.

It's one of the most common lawn mushrooms. Not poisonous or active. There is no good reason to ever eat one. But we can be pretty sure it's not poisonous because they're *so* common we know of thousands of cases of infants eating them but no cases of poisonings.

Happy mushrooming!
