Weird myc growth? (PQ PIC)
    #10767135 -

My BRF jars are about 95% colonized. Just some spots on the bottom were goin a little slow. So I flipped em upside down and slapped em so they weren't stuck to the jar. There is about a half inch of space between the bottom of the jar (now the top since i flipped em) and the cake.

I checked on em today and the growth looks funny. Where the myc meets the uncolonized substrate its building up. When the cake was against the jar it would just keep spreading, but now that there's air in there it's forming little ridges or lips on the edges of the growth.

You can kinda see what I mean in this pic..

Why is this happening and is it bad?

Should I flip them back?

It works and that is all that matters to me. GL on your experiment bro! All we're interested here is aiding gas exchange but also sometimes in slightly wet jars the moisture settles to the bottom and flipping in this case allows the dry verm layer to soak up any excess water thereby creating healthier conditions for colonizing.

Jars should only be flipped if necessary (they stall) otherwise leave them be. You can also crack the lids slightly to allow better gas exchange and never have to flip at all. GL

IME the lip that you see is normal, the mycellium is just stretching out a bit from all the new space.

hes talking about flipping jars more than once could bring in contaims due to the dry verm layer getting flipped and moved around too much

ur talking about flipping the jars for the last 25% or so of colonization

you can flip it i do and it deff helps.... just be careful when flipping and if you are going to flip leave them that way

but it looks fine looks like stronger myc growth now that u gave it some room to expand and breathe

Ummm take a better picture dude! And instead of flipping the jars. Lay them vertically so the co2 can build up but slowly seep out as it gets full. I would say too much is not good, but it does in fact help in mycelium growth. Not so much for fruit bodies though!!
