Mycelium should grow at 72 degrees, however it would do much better between 80 and 85. A higher temp now will induce more prolific fruiting when the temp is dropped.I have seen brown rice flour at GNC. Otherwise, you could order it cheaply off the internet, or grind up the organic brown rice you bought in a coffee grinder, and use that for your cakes. I've heard this is actually good for them, using freshly ground stuff.

well.. i have a nice coffee grinder, and i couldn't find any at gnc. due to the fact that i must keep my jars as concealed as possible, it is hard for me to keep a good temperature around them. i will try and figure out a way to increase the temp now, it it means better fruitings though. perhaps i can just put a warm water bag around them and replace the water like twice a day. do you think this will make it too hot, and take away too much light? i really can't shine a hot light on them, or use anything else that would require a cord leading to them... right now they are behind something so ambient light can reach them, but there is no direct line of sight from any angle but above... will the extra heat increase fruitings that much, or will it just speed things up? i can wait an extra week, but if it costs me half my potential crop, then i would really see a reason to fix this problem. any other suggestions?

Rather than a bag filled with warm water (although this might work if you can monitor the temp), I've heard of people sitting the jars in a tray filled with water, heated by a fishtank heater. But if you can't get electricity there, I'd try your idea. Just don't make it too hot, or the mycelium won't grow at all.Oh yeah, Juan Matia is right. Mycelium don't need any light really, so you might be able to just put them in a box with the hot water bottle or whatever. Have you seen any growth yet? I think the white stuff might have a hard time growing on the whole rice grain.

no growth yet, its been almost exactly 4 days now, (so it's the begining of day 5), so i think i'm gonna go to kind today and look for some brown rice flour there. i didn't find it last time, but i didn't look that hard, since everyone said it wouldn't be there. i had also though that the rice might be a problem, since it was the only change in the pf tek that i used. now that i am looking at the substrate, i am also wondering if i might have used to much verm. anyway, i'm going to keep these jars for a while long and hope for the best, but i think i will try and start two more jars and see what happens from there. this will exhaust my spore suppy, so i am desperatly hoping it will work.
