the director's cut was amazing...added in a lot about hollis mason...

the opening credit montage is one of the best things i've seen in a long long time.

I judge these movies for what they are.
they are ther for my entertainment, and if i feel entertained after watchin then its worth it.
with that said I think both movies rocked.



I cant belive this thread has gone on this long without anyone mentioning the giant blue dick prominent throught 1/2 of the watchmen tho....

Have not seen the Watchmen, but I read the comic, and can see many similarities to the Dark Knight. Even so, my gut reaction to the Dark Knight was almost opposite to the Watchmen. There is a reason every American loved the Dark Knight.

"But who will watch the watchmen?" Lets be over general and say that The Watchmen is cynical - in that sense, critical and subversive.

On the other hand, The Dark Knight is a more American brand of cynicism, intensely patriotic in character. The necessary deception of the people, the acceptance of political puppetry and corruption, and ultimately the justification of measures beyond what is to the people's knowledge and acceptance - this is the ideological message of The Dark Knight.

Both are very cynical on the surface, but cynicism is an established value now. They are heroes of different ages.

you doubt I was actually laughing.....uh ok?

I was there with like 4 other friends....about 15 minutes into the movie is when I let out my first fit of hysterical laughter .....didn't end till the movie was over. Which is funny b/c after a while my friends started laughing too...

and i think it was a good thing because at some parts when it was just SO cheezy, i would actually start to get every1 else in the theatre to laugh with us...we were laughing damn hard

i actually haven't had that much fun in a movie theatre in a while

I like laughing at movies that are annoying- when I saw Superman Returns I couldn't stop laughing at the funeral scene, what a waste of 30 fucking minutes.  but yea- watchmen was pretty annoying

Maybe one message appeals to some people and another message to others ... but IMO there is absolutely no basis for saying Watchmen was "better" than Dark Knight.

Watchmen, cinematically speaking, was a huge pile of dogshit. The plot's pacing was terrible, the acting was weak, zero of the characters were worth caring about, it completely overplayed it's "message," and it crammed in so much CG nonsense that after the first 45 minutes it was impossible to care about anything they did, special-effects-wise.

Say what you will about Dark Knight, but the Joker was a fantastic character and the special effects were great(largely due to the fact that they weren't all CG). I'm not saying "Dark Knight best movie ever omgwtf!" -- in fact I think Dark Knight is a bit overrated -- but comparing it to Watchmen is ludicrous.

The squid is the main thing that kept that comic hokey.  I think the movie makers deliberately left out the squid to de-hokey-fy the movie.
