Best supplements to take
    #10538126 -

So my body type is an ectomorph(only 110lbs) and Ive been working out of and on this summer but getting alot more into it the past few weeks. Anyways, I know its not the healthiest choice but I wanna start taking some supplements while I work out to really get the most improvement and results possible from what I do. Im soooo sick of being small and although Ive tried to work out before I seem to have the most motivation this time and wanna keep it up. Any advice?

i know exactly how you feel, I have the same body type.

bodybuilder types swear by whey protein and amino acids, and some swear by creatine. the latter enhances water retention of cells, the former generates mass by repairing membranes. experiment, to find a good balance.

but don't get tempted by anabolics. messing with hormones can drastically change your body chemistry, and your moods

I used to be 5'11' and 123 lbs.  I've been eating a lot better, and focusing my workouts on strength training strictly (little to no cardio).

The only supplement I take is creatine monohydrate.  It's a powder that is very commonly taken by body builders and other athletes.  I parachute 1 teaspoon a day, about 5 grams, and drink it down with two glasses of H2O.

A lot of other friends take protein supplements, but I just eat tuna and eggs instead.

The only way to gain weight is to give your body the building blocks to do so.  At such a low weight the initial first year of growth will astound you if you're disciplined.

Eat 1.5-2grams Protein per LB of bodyweight.  That at the very least should be your minimum, and I'm not talking whey protein shakes these are typically only used as a bridge to whole food meals and for pre/post workout shakes to immediately get your body out of being catabolic.  Your body never will absorb every single gram of protein you ingest so more is better, and stick primarily to whole foods like chicken, lean beef, tuna, dairy etc.

Stay away from sugars and things like white bread if you can help it.  Complex carbs are the way to go, like oatmeal and whole grain wheat bread.  Counting these macros isn't so much of a dilemma for ectomorphic people since you don't put on fat anyways, so I don't pay much attention to fat consumption either, instead I just make sure I'm eating the good fats and not unsaturaded trans bullshit.

Keep your body anabolic by eating at least 6 times a day.  You should be pushing for 4000 calories and that may seem daunting but it isn't bad if you break it up into smaller meals more frequently.

Flex Wheeler was an ectomorph and look where he got.  It can be difficult starting out at first but ectomorphs are lucky in that when we gain weight we instantly look shredded.  I've never had a day in my life where I've had to actually try to get my abdominal muscles to show, and a lot of poor bastards struggle with that shit.

75% Diet , 15% Training, 10% Rest

Just do your workouts heavy and eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, and eat.  You will grow.

edit: Stuff like creatine may help with recovery and the like but seriously, there is no OTC supplement that will make you get huge any better than eating quality food.  It just doesn't exist.  Since 2004 the prohormones are gone, so unless you get anabolic steroids all that expensive shit in little pill bottles at GNC is garbage.  Spend all that money on some London Broil instead.

Do complex lifts, you MUST MUST MUST do deadlifts and squats.  I split the days as deadlifts are more for back but doing these compound lifts work multiple muscle groups as well as core muscles for stability.  Dominate your legs and back, working arms/shoulders/chest is easy but you get more of your weight from those quads/calves/back/lats etc.

supplements are supplements. first take care of the foundation: good diet, good workouts (make sure to build your routine around compound lifts), good sleep.

from john berardi:

The 7 Rules of Good Nutrition

Here’s my take on it. I call these principles, "The 7 Rules of Good Nutrition."

These aren’t the newest techniques from the latest cutting-edge plan. Rather, they are simple, time-tested, no nonsense habits that you need to get into when designing a good eating program.

1. Eat every 2-3 hours, no matter what. You should eat between 5-8 meals per day.

2. Eat complete (containing all the essential amino acids), lean protein with each meal.

3. Eat fruits and/or vegetables with each food meal.

4. Ensure that your carbohydrate intake comes from fruits and vegetables. Exception: workout and post-workout drinks and meals.

5. Ensure that 25-35% of your energy intake comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally between saturates (e.g. animal fat), monounsaturates (e.g., olive oil), and polyunsaturates (e.g. flax oil, salmon oil).

6. Drink only non-calorie containing beverages, the best choices being water and green tea.

7. Eat mostly whole foods (except workout and post-workout drinks).
So what about calories, or macronutrient ratios, or any number of other things that I’ve covered in other articles? The short answer is that if you aren’t already practicing the above-mentioned habits, and by practicing them I mean putting them to use over 90% of the time (i.e., no more than 4 meals out of an average 42 meals per week violate any of those rules), everything else is pretty pointless.

Yeah, it kind of sucks being naturally skinny.  But I forgot to mention that doing the lifestyle/workouts that I have, I've since gainged 50+ pounds!!  I went from 123 to 175 in just a few years!

But yeah, 5HT has some pretty good advice.  Working out is half diet/rest and half doing proper work outs with QUALITY (usually slow) reps with SOLID form.  I make it a point to start on a very low weight with every exercise I do (even if I look 'pussy' just doing the bar) and slowly work my way up.  In just six months I went from benching just the bar (though obviously I was CAPABLE of more) to benching 215.  Quality reps, good form.

well your new so start slowly,
make sure your workout is perfect, that is the main thing in getting bigger

just eat alot of protein and carbs.

get a tub of muscle milk or optimum nutrition protein.

if you want more energy when you work out try creatine powder, works great

after a few months getting used to lifting try some nitric oxide boosters or really any pre-workout supplement

msg me if u need info

Not all protein supplements are created equal.  I would stay away from most soy-based ones.  Someone at a farmer's market showed me a Whey Protein supplement which smelled like vanilla, although it wasn't flavored.  The description on it said it was heated at 98 degrees to dry it, and that most other whey supplements you find are extracted with pig bile  :evilpuke:
