dude i can crank out pullups like a motherfucker. That would not help me at all. ive started doing shrugs with dumbells and shit that i think would help grip so well see if that helps.

You guys got some pretty decent pulls. At my college gym you never really see guys go over 3 plates, which is funny because you will ocassionally see bros benching like 405.

Those guys clearly been skipping leg day

There is a dude at my gym that can bench 405 and can barley
Quarter squat 225. His forearms are bigger than his calves. I don't get it, to each their own though.

:burke:

I have a black friend that is so fucking big up top and so small in the legs it has to fuck with his balance.  I bet even he can squat more than he can bench though. That is pretty damn sad, or impressive depending how you look at it

that being said my bench and deadlifts are coming along excellently, squat not so much but i think i just need to deload and focus on form. its weird i like push harder with one foot when i near my max  if that makes sense. like my weak hip drops and my lower back caves towards my pelvis. I used to be real good at squats when i was younger and shorter but now my form is all jacked up. And i used to be real bad at DL's but my form is really clicking on that, i could add weight every week if my grip was increasing as fast. Aging is a weird process.

I hear you my bench is still shit but some form tweaking is slowly
Improving it. I don't know how you squat, but I recently abandoned the rippetoe squat for a more ipf type style and have started progressing well again.

Ah man that sucks. Only of a matter of time before they start banning the dangerous exercises

Good news on my side. I can incline bench 185 5 times. Cant wait to max out on flat bench.

Not bad, I hate doing inclines, they feel awkward to me for whatever reason. My pressing movements as a whole suck ass.

I Got a pair of wrist wraps and a slingshot from howmuchyabench.net. My wrists have been feeling beat up lately. Going to try it all out on bench tonight.  The sligshot is supposed to give you 10% on your bench. Hoping  a little overloading will help spark some progress.

Decided to practice with my new wraps. I'm not sure if I'm getting to much knee travel forward in them. Any opinions?

I have nagging shoulder problems but i dont think i would use that man. Seems like its just there for ego boosting purposes  i dont know though i was only on that site for a bit.

Your squat form looks pretty on point to me man. It looks like there is a little bit of instability but that happens to me too.

It actually seemed to help my form. My upper back stayed tight and my elbows didn't flare up on me. I've been working on breaking those habits for awhile. We'll see if it helps after awhile.

I felt a little unstable. My legs and hanfs were numb from the wraps. The knee wraps are to cast like for me, I do better in my stretchy kla's.

I pinch my scapulas together put the gap between the bird and ring fingers on the rings on the bar then pinch my elbows into like pull up form if that makes sense. Really focusing on my setup has helped me through a bitch of a plateau. I dont know what the technical term is but driving with my heels when the bar is at the bottom of the movement really helped too.

Yeah, leg drive really helps. That's the one thing on bench I just got naturally.

Hello fuckers. Well way to necromance a long dead thread.
After 4 years of being a complete fucking druggo and alcoholic, a turbulent relationship which eventually died... I've decided to start taking care of myself again.

I pretty much stopped training about 4 years (?) ago when I dropped 130kg off my back during a squat warmup and fucked my shoulder. Greatly affected everything to do with arms and I just fizzled out back into ketamine abuse and hadn't gone anywhere near a gym since mid 2011 (until a month ago)

Being 28 now, I think I'm finally over ketamine. I still love it but it's just too much hassle to get hold of and gets in the way of general life for me. I have no self control.

Been training for the last 4 weeks. Just finished week 4. Doing Lyle McDonald's Generic Bulking. Have put back on a lot of mass. Everything's filling out pretty quickly which I put down to muscle memory. Eating really well too, loosely following Intermittent Fasting (first meal at 1pm after training and last meal at 9pm with a 16 hour fast, train on an empty stomach which is great)
First deadlift in 4 years on week 1 was 150kg which I was pretty happy with, been ramping that up over the last few weeks just doing the bulking thing then I'll get back into serious strength training.

Here's the 'program' I'm doing at the moment. Alternating lower/upper days on Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri

Lower A
Squat 3 x 6-8 (then I just deload and smash the fuck out of it)
RDL 2 x 10-12
Leg Extension 2 x 10-12
Standing Calf Raise 2 x 6-8
Seated Calf Raise 2 x 10-12
Weighted Crunches 2 x 12-15

Upper A
Flat Bench Press 3 x 6-8 (deload and smash)
Pendlay Row/DB row
Incline DB Press 2 x 10-12
Face Pulls 2 x 10-12
Pulldown 2 x 10-12
QPushdown 1 x 12-15
DB Curl 1 x 12-15

Lower B
Deadlift 3 x 3-5 Ramped to 1 top set (then deload and smash and do a 1rm every couple of weeks)

Hack Squats 2 x 10-12
Leg Curl 2 x 10-12
Standing Calf Raise 2 x
Seated Calf Raise 2 x 10-12
Weighted Crunches 2 x 12-15

Upper B
Flat Bench Press 3 x 6-8 (deload and smash)
Pendlay Row 3x5
DB Row 3 x 6-8
OHP 2 x 10-12
Shrugs 2 x 10-12
Chins 2 x 6-8
Pushdown 1 x 12-15
DB Curl 1 x 12-15

As you can see it's pretty 'size' orientated not strength, but I'm pushing hard on my big lifts and trying to make those as strength orientated as possible. Want to start doing more good mornings, hamstring raises, more core stuff and will start doing more powerlifting stuff like cleans, snatches etc.
Eventually I'll get back into 5/3/1 or something when i get back from sea mid next year. I'm going to jump on some Test E too at some stage soon, already have a couple of vials for it but I'm getting big enough already naturally I don't know if I'll need it.. we'll see... but the boost is enticing.
How is it all going for everyone else? Any of y'all still lifting?

EDM said:
I need my grip to be better. It just keeps failing me and has always been weak.

I do use chalk but I have never and don't want to use straps unless it will actually help. I have never even thought about straps.

2 weeks ago I was suppose to get 5 reps of 385 deadlift. I made it to 4 and had to drop it because it was slipping.

last week I dropped down to 315 dead lifts and just did a few sets of 6.

This week (two weeks after that failed 5rm attempt) I put on 385lbs once again. I got to the 4th rep and even worse then before, I couldnt even lock it out without the bar slipping out of my hand and dropping.

This fucking sucks. I have done this weight and reps before. Whats up?

Sorry just on this, I never used to be able to do DL's without gloves. Using a mixed grip even. Since re-training I'm not using gloves, belt, chalk or anything. I found my grip massively improves if I do dumbell exercises that really fucking challenge my grip and wrists (like DB rows or DB shrugs with weights that are way too fucking heavy and force my hands to work to hold them)

I've never used chalk before either.

I'm no expert on the matter, keep in mind.

Also try those "Fat Gripz" for your lower working weights with deadlifts... they may help?

Fuck yeah get into that
