Drugs Now Legal in Canada Technically?

Since it wasn't appealed in time drug laws are unconstitutional, it conflicts with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (a part 'entrenched' in the Constitution).
Lawyers expected an appeal, there wasn't one, so this might be something big.

I think that article may be grossly misinterpreting what's going on

I understood it to be the case that, the judge ruled in favor of the injection site being able to remain open, by striking down drug laws, and giving the federal government an ultimatum: Rewrite the laws, or accept a lack of drug laws.
The government didn't rewrite the laws.

"Section Thirty-three of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is part of the Constitution of Canada. It is commonly known as the notwithstanding clause (or "la clause dérogatoire" in French), or as the override power, and it allows Parliament or provincial legislatures to override certain portions of the Charter."

June 30 was last week and it's still open. According to the constitution the government had until the end of last month (a few days ago) to rewrite the laws but nothing came of it.

So basically they can say "fuck the constitution" ???
Anywho, I think it would be cool if they let this ride for a while. You know, seeing what actually happens before reverting to the status quo.

Well in Ontario since 2006 it's technically legal to possess pot for personal use. However, cops still shake people up and confiscate weed. They can't arrest anyone really because if they do the 'suspect' can appeal it to the courts which instantly strike it down as constitutional.
So cops will try to confiscate the weed and not write you up. However if you insist on being written up you get a good chance of keeping your weed AND staying out of the pen. Cops know this, they just want your free weed.
It's a really REALLY iffy and messed-up situation.

Ironic I read this site today and didn't even see this. I like to read the comments of the angry zero tolerance conservatives comparing drug addiction to more violent crimes like rape and murder. They make me giggle My fav: "Sure why not, why not open a designated rape location while were at it"
Sadly no drugs are definitely not legal technically. You will most certainly still get arrested if caught distributing or using them. A man can dream though...a man can dream
