Yes, I know. Im very experienced with growing salvia, but Ive never used that kind of substrate before. I hear that they apparently love oxygen reaching there roots, and the orchid substrate makes that achievable.

If you are under the impression of oxygen loving them simply use a hydrogen peroxide water mix once a month or so.

I've used some with orchid mix and it works very well, the chunks of bark should prevent soil compaction.

I thought of using H2O2 but I wanted something more real..
I guess I really want to experiment.

On a sidenote, I experimented using seaweed compost on one of my plants, and its doing very very well.

Seaweed, Fish Fertz, and Marine compost have been working very well..

Ive yet to experiment with coco-coir.. I dont know what to expect.

This probably has to do with getting air to the roots.  I could see it working. They're probably talking about the standard orchid growing bark. You'd just have to make sure to keep it well watered.
