Graft bottom on pereskiopsis?
    #10564315 -

After grafting the upper part of lophophora seedling on pereskiopsis, I tried returning the bottom, to the pot, and it usually died.
A few times I tried grafting both bottom and upper part of lophophora seedling. I cut the seedling in 2 equal parts. I haven't succeded with the bottom.
Does it have the same success rates of grafting the upper part?

Good question, one im not entirely sure of myself.

This thread has some relevant info: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/1966776#1966776

Search Una's post, im cleaning house and dont have much time, but I remember he does have pics somewhere. Someone else around here (I think) grafted a 'peyote butt' on a perekiopsis and it formed a crest. I imagine because it formed an adventitious bud and mutated. Same thing happens in chimeras if im not mistaken (by that I mean adventitious buds forming with a strand of respective dna in each, somewhat irrelevant to your question). Read that thread, do a search with author Una. Im sure youll find the answer you seek.

Sorry I cant be more helpful, very busy atm.

I have grafted the bottom before it will work. After i graft i carefully put all the grafted cacti in a tub, spray the inside of the tub.cover with plastic. i keep them in the tub for two weeks to let them recover. If i do this most of the grafts work if not most fail for me

bottom grafts are not as easy but they do work, sometimes.
just make sure the bottom part has some aeroles to pup from or it is futile to even try.

I am using very young seedling of just a few days.
Do they have aeroles ?
I prefer not to waste time, and hurt the pereskiopsis, if chances are low.
Also, Should I cut the seedling in the middle or bottom, or does it not matter.

i figured as much, younger seedlings won't have any aeroles lower down, only at the top around the aperical meristem.
it doesn't matter where you cut the seedling really, i would say cutting in the middle is best.

i prefer to use older seedling for pereskiopsis grafts so that the lower part has some aeroles left on it.
i replant them and they pup, giving me even more material for grafting.
