I have rats :(

So I have rats I live in an old house in a major us city that is somewhat know for a rat problem. I have tired snap traps and have come up empty handed. And the ones that shock them to death is cool but a pit pricey. I also have a small dog so poisons are a no go. So what should I do short of killing my landlord?

what alan said, its fun really put some peanut butter on a something they cant carry off. i had to do that when i was like 12 and my hamsters got loose and started mutlipying!

First off, complain to your landlord; it's his/her responsibility to keep the building up to code.  Second of all, make sure all your food is properly sealed and stored, dishes cleaned promptly after use, etc. Cleanliness is the first line of defense against rodents.

Also, if your city has a serious rat problem, there may be some kind of program in effect where they handle the issue, free of charge. However, if said city is anything like the ones I live near, good luck getting them to actually do anything about it.

If the above methods don't work, and a few months from now you're in the same situation, you can try calling up your local news and explain the problem to them.....assuming it's an actual infestation; otherwise don't waste their time. But around here at least, landlords & municipalities often let all sorts of shit slid, and the news has a hotline where you can complain about issues such as these & they'll investigate that shit; make the proper phone calls & then report on it.  Nine times out of ten, the problem will be fixed shortly after the story is on the news....and if not, the reporters will follow up on it until it is.

Well I have compailed to my land(slum)lord in writing about the rats amoung  other things ( illegal u pipe in sink , both front and back locks dont lock probely when the people up stairs take showers it leeks in mine ect ect ect ect.) I guess I should just call the city insepctor .... well after next harvest.  As far as getting to the bestment (which I just got to and was fucking some scary shit and I used to live in Detroit. So far ive plugged all the random holes in the house with steal scrubbie pads  but I dumped rat poison gel down them first. Any one know if you can sue a landlord for just being this bad? I know a bit about construction and this place is not up to code :frown:

Yeah, you definitely have the upper hand here....however wait to do anything about it until after you're done growing and you clean out your place. Otherwise you'll be putting yourself at risk.
