Electronic steamer for sterilization
    #1045169 -

I was searching through the forum, and didn't quite find anyone that uses the similar thing... My family had this old Chinese electronic steamer, and I am considering to use it for sterilizing the jars.

It's basically a large pod with lids, with a rack on the bottom of the pot to seperate the food from water. So you just pour the desire amount of water in the pot, and the water will start boiling and producing steams. The steamer will switch off automatically once all water have been evaporated. It has no heat or pressure settings, just pour in water, plug in the plug and off you go.

Now, the question is, will this work? I've read many people that you should turn down the heat when the water's boiling, but for this one I assume it's on full heat, will this dry my substrate? If it's fine, how long should i keep it on? By the way I use good old simple BRF tek

If anyone has any experience with this please help me. thank you.

IMO it might work but you may have to tool around with it a bit....get a 16 quart crab steamer..its so cheap and and are known to work...if you got the cash a pressure cooker is the way to go...but try it and see if it works..hell why not

This sounds great.  Water can only be so hot before becomming steam, so its not the water your worried about being to hot.  As long as its got a good ammount of steam you doing good.  Steam in this device for about 1hour 20minutes or so.  This device is a rice steamer which is basically what most people would probally prefer to use   Boiling water is only negative if its bubbling up into the jars.  keep the lids cracked and tinfoil on top of them from condensation that drips down onto the jars...
