Since they're just PF style jars, they should be ok. A pressure cooker is one of, if not THE best investment you can make for this hobby. That and The Mushroom Cultivator.

*shakes head*
nope. i mean a steamer where you pour water in it, and you place the food you want steamed on a plastic rack on top. . it has a plastic cover that makes a seal, obviously, so whatever you put in there, gets cooked.

i left the 4 jars in there about a hour and 10-15 minutes..

a steamer maybe a little better than a pot as steam can get hotter that liqued water but it is not as good as a pressure cooker.

Do to the laws of STP (Standard temperature and pressure) there is a limit to how hot an element or compound can get and a certain pressure, in a certain form. The higher the pressure, the higher water temps can go without boiling, and when they do, the steam can get hotter.

it is the same theory that works the radiator cap of your car.

*nods*
i am a bit (master of understatement i am) tight for money at the moment, so i have to do with what i can, you know? i.m not really expecting to be really successful, or even moderately, as this is my first time; i.m just getting the feel for things. i.ve been trying to just knowelege myself, so i know what.s going on, and the how.s whens.. blah blah..

i think what i will do, is to wait 2 or so days before i innoculate the 7 jars to see if any have a funky smell as a sign of contams, or actually have contams growing already. :-)

how successful where all of you on your first time?
