Why would I honor a vetran who didn't fight in the war?

Beats me.

Because today is Veteran's Day, not "Those Who Killed Other's or Got Killed" Day!

In that case I won't honor you.

What are you talking about? Many veterans had to kill people. It is as much their day as yours.

Of course, it is ALL Veteran's day, from the infantry grunt to the potato peeler.

veterans

i think possibly you should consider broadening YOUR definition of the word VETERAN. The cooks who prepared the meals for the soldiers are veterans, as are the medics who attended to them and were there in many other capacities that did not involve DIRECT contact with the violence part of it.

I apologize deeply for NOT wasting any "gooks". (No offense meant to any Vietnamese people).

Sounds like this is getting personal F. You seem to be desperate to attack me and protect swami.

Read my post again, I said "many veterans had to kill people". Not "all". There is no need whatsoever to broaden my defintion.

Don't get bitter man it's only a messageboard.

In reply to:
Honor Me Today

If you were truly honorable, you wouldn't have used the phrase "honor me."

I knew that I could count on a "highly spiritual" type like Murex to profane a sacred holiday.

Using your logic, even many war generals were not veterans because they did not kill anyone or get shot.

No, I think Murex said anyone who fought in the war. Doesn't mean they had to "wastel" anyone, just that they at least got their ass within a thousand miles of the front line.

Alex, i not only suggested you broaden your definition of "veteran" but i actually furnished you with a couple of examples(cook, medic) to enable you to do so(IF you wished)

You seem to be desperate to attack me and protect swami.

can you spell  persecution complex?

Don't get bitter man it's only a messageboard
So  I'm the one that's bitter........i thank you for pointing that out to me Alex......

Ok, I'll allow myself one post today to honor you and all the veterans.

Thanks for serving 'The United States of America' and by doing so serving me.

As a young man of 17 and a senior in high school I attempted to enlist in the Marines (Hoo-rah) in an effort to serve my country and follow in my father's footsteps. Fortunately they found cancer during the physical examination and by the time I was cured the war was over. Hindsight is always 20/20 and if I had a son of my own at that time I would not advise him to fight in that war. My father and grandfather both served our country in WWII on the island of Iwo Jima. Grampa was 45 and Dad was 18. They were the only father and son team to make it back alive.

War is sometimes a necessary evil and is nothing to desire. As General Patton said, "The Soldier, above all, prays for peace." There are times when we are called upon to protect and defend those that cannot defend themselves and to me, that is what war is about. To place another's welfare above my own, which is truly a spiritual thing, as much as love is.

I would also like to honor you personally for objecting to that war and acting on those objections. That took bravery.

I would also like to honor President Nixon for taking us out of that awful situation even though he took too long to do it. As Jerry Rubin said, "The Democratic Party has blood on their hands." (referring to Vietnam, remember of the Chicago Seven?)

[sarcasm]And lastly I wound like to ask us all to have a moment of silence for Jane Fonda. On Golden Pond was a pretty good flick. [/sarcasm]

Good Day

As I've already pointed out, there was no need. I said "most" not "all". You wouldn't be deliberately ignoring that point would you?

can you spell persecution complex?

I just havn't seen you attack Swami lately for his hostility..maybe I missed it when you did that

So I'm the one that's bitter

If the cap fits...
