Honor Me Today
    #1042766 - 11/11/02 09:58 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

U.S. citizens be sure to honor me today as a Viet Nam era Veteran.

As a pre-emptive strike to anyone saying this is not spiritual, I would respond that serving others and risking your life for your fellow man qualifies.

i think risking your life for some idealist plan some crazy bastards in government came up with while high on fear of the god hating commies is pretty foolish. but if it validates your life, why not.

Without my getting into my OWN feelings re war and killing in general, i have to say that i don't think i would have had the courage to do what you did,(mainly because i would never had the conviction in the first place) but i sincerly take my hat off to you..... i may not be a US citezen but my appreciation for what all of you guys did over there stands

Swami i was on your side 99.99999% before this post. you were the voice of reason ... something we need very much in the Spirituality, Philosophy and Science forum.

today isn't about you ... today is about honoring ALL soldiers of the United States and most importantly those who have died in battle or passed on in life. i do honor you but i hope you reply to this not with anger or a rebute but with a post remembering those who can not be with us today.

semper fi

I hear ya. When I said "Honor Me" I didn't mean the persona of Swami, but all of those who served and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice (eating Navy food! *gag* - just kidding) of laying down their lives for a cause. You were right to correct my phrasing and intent.

Yeah, but I'm sure Swami didn't have much of a choice. At least he didn't pussy out and run to Canada.

Let's spare a thought for the hundreds of thousands of vietnamese women and kids who died too.

I think we should mourn for all victims of war. Once again though, your reading comprehension (along with strumpling) is highly questionable. I am a Vietnam ERA ERA ERA veteran. Never went to Viet Nam.

In point of fact I was honorably discharged as a Conscientious Objector after 3 faithful years of service as an Electronics Tech.

I think living off our dime for a several years is thanks enough ;P

I don't know what you personally did for me during that time. Do you?

edit #1 (addition): sorry about the confusion, btw.. and yes, we should mourn for all victims of war, especially those wars our country thought they NEEDED to play a role in. (end edit #1)
-=- Matt/Strumpling -=-
is the US military even doing anything for me NOW?

Never went to Viet Nam.

I never said you did. I said we should spare a thought for the vietnamese women and children who died during the vietnam era.

However you did post "I would respond that serving others and risking your life for your fellow man qualifies", implying that you risked your life. Lying does seem to be a nasty habit of yours...

Why would I honor a vetran who didn't fight in the war?
