Which Agar to use?

Hello everyone I have a pretty simple question. I wanted to know which agar to purchase. Bacteriological Grade Agar or Technical Grade (Food Grade).

The Food Grade looks white and the Technical grade looks brownish. Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure the best agar to use is the lightest colored one. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

BTW, the above information pertains to the cultivation of shitake mushrooms and none other. I only use the shroomery forums as an information source for fungi propogation, not the cultivation of psylocibes.

Most types of agar will work. the more expensive ones often have a higher gelstrength which means that less can be used to obtain a gel of similar strength. They are also more purified which can be usefull when working with delicate species.

he is telling you that the Bacteriological Grade Agar is better quality.

Sporeworks has great Agar!
I like their MEA and Agar Agar.

Agar from the Chinese markets is a cheaper grade.
But I have had good results from it too.

I like making my own PDYA.

where would agar be located in a local health food or chinese grocery store? The chinese place looks scary- i hate talking to them- and i couldnt find it in the health food store
