Salvia help!!!

I just got some cuttings in the mail yesterday.  It was pretty cold most of the day and I didn't realize they had arrived.  When I opened them up they looked ok though.  I put them in water and they were not wilted.  I noticed that the ends of a couple of leaves were sort of curled, i assume because of the cold.  I then put them into a rubbermaid container and put the top on for the evening.  This morning I opened the container and all but 1 cutting are drooping.  A couple leaves look dark green and dry.  I misted them and put a clear cover on the rubbermaid then I put them under a flourescent light.  It has been about 5 hours now with no improvement.  What should I do?  Did I kill them by not getting to them on time?  Help! :frown:

you just placed them in a tupperware container? why? take the cutting and submerse the stem in water. That's it, when it recovers and the roots are 2-4 inches, then you can plant it.

did they already have roots? how cold did it get? are they in soil?

No I didnt just toss them in tupperware. I guess I should be more clear. I cut them and put them into pint jars of water, (clones) then used a large rubbermaid as a sort of humidity tent. I've read tons of articles on growing Sally. I'm just wondering if I killed them by not getting them out of the cold in time. If not what might be the problem, and what to do next. No roots yet, in water temp got down to about 27 degrees F for a few hours 3-4

Well the first mistake was that you opened the box and cut them. They should have went in to your humidity tank and left alone in the dark for two to three days. slowly letting little lite get to the plant. When they arive to your house they are in bad shock and are needing a little break from every thing Good luck and good grow in to you :wink:

if they got below 32 F for too long they will probably die.

In actuallity cutting them wasn't that bad, as long as you have sufficient plant stem length and didn't cut off the only node you had which it would be good to have root grow from.

They wilted because when you cut them, you didn't cut them underwate, so when you cut the stem it cuts through vascular tissue mainly Xylem and Phloem. Xylem is a water transport tube that is under negative pressure, which means it's constantly sucking water, so when you cut it and don't do it under water it sucks in air and clogs up the works and wilts cause it doesn't get water to the leaves where it needs them.

Once again cutting it wouldn't have been bad unless you had like 2 leaf nodes with leaves and one without for which roots would come from. or not enough bare leaf nodes and length to keep the leaves from laying on the soil.
