im starting lowryder soon
    #10277290 -

first off i just want to say hello to the
The Ethnobotanical Garden

this is my first time stepping in here and i will probably be asking you guys a bunch of questions in the next few months.
i am getting a small number of original low ryder from a friend for free, i was never interested in growing my own mj but the auto flowering sucked me in.
i just finished reading Dexter_Morgans hate post on lowryder it kinda unamped me, but i thank him for sharing the knowledge.
here is my question because i don't really understand growing mj to well.
what dose a system do for the low ryder strain
last Christmas i got this form my girlfriend
MOD EDIT: Non sponsor links NOT allowed! Read the rules. and never used it
would this system used properly create larger buds? will it effect potency? how would the strain differ from being grown outdoors would it just be healthier?

a hydro system will give you decent nugs. But it can go south pretty fast if you aren't paying attention.
But lowryder isn't that potent, they have lowryder 2 now and a whole bunch of other crosses.
If you really are going to grow, get a real strain, one that doesn't autoflower.

Growing herb is a very rewarding experience, make sure you get the proper strain so a few months isn't wasted.

Hard to say. Lowryder isn't the best choice of genetics if your looking for yield and potency.

sorry for the link i wasn't thinking. and yes i understand that ruderalis genetics are not known for yield or potency. but i was wondering since the plant is looked down upon so much what good would it be to use the system? none? i would be better off planting some tomatoes?
also on a side note i was wondering what happens to a plant after t matures. they just die?

ya well lowryder does suck in terms of potency and yield.

LR2 would be a better choice.

after a plant matures you kill it and then start again.

Can we see a show of hands from all those here that have actually grown Lowryder?
Lowryder 2 might be a better bet if you want a larger yield, however, it takes longer to initiate flowering (~2wks, hence, is larger before flower) and flowers for an extra two weeks. When you take that into account, it's not too much of a leap to realise that for every two LR2 grows completed, it's possible to complete three LR1 grows. I suspect that a third grow would increase yields beyond that achievable by LR2.
But anyway, all discussion of yields and potency is moot. You grow LR for it's specialised features, not so you can have a ton of herb!

Oh, and bw86, go easy on the nutes, LR really doesn't need all that much. Just give it a deep pot to root in and all is well...

yeah Cannabis ruderalis is not potent but so many breeders breed it with sativas or indicas to get a shorter flowering time it sucks.

Give me some pure haze varieties and im happy.

I have grown strains in the past that were not called lowryder  but were the same genetics...Cannabis ruderalis...they suck in my opinion.

They flowered incredibly fast but the herb was not that great and that was not from me because i know what im doing, graduated from cannabis college when i lived in CA and worked with the Oakland cannabis buyers cooperative know how group.

But it really depends on how the OP's tolerance is towards herb and its many active cannabinoids, some people will get blitzed off a bowl of lowryder strains, some wont.

I am a pot snob and proud of it.

Indeed!

In fact, Lowryder may contain Ruderalis genes, but likely no more so than many other northern hemisphere species. LR is in fact derived from an American strain called Williams Wonder, which is why it autoflowers immediately. Ruderalis strains will autoflower, but will grow for some time before reaching maturity, whereupon they flower.

I would say that Lowryder is perfectly capable of producing top notch buds, but that is dependant on the person growing it. Even the finest strains will produce poor bud if grown badly. I would ask you to actually try growing LR before dismissing it out of hand.

No lowryder does not come from williams wonder, supposedly williams wonder cannot be flowered outdoors unless it is first forced to flower some indoors, this indica strain is mainly for indoor growing, not outdoor as C. ruderalis plants would prefer.

Many ruderalis seeds were collected by seed companies in the late 70's early 80's from Hungary in an attempt to create early developing/maturing varieties, some of these original ruderalis strains are still in circulation today hence the lowryder strains and others like Top 44.

I'm not going to argue the point, but I was growing when LR first hit the scene, so I can assure you I know what i'm talking about. Given that the Joint Doctor actually names W' Wonder on his site, I'd say that sort of proves my point.... And I quote:

"Lowryder claims direct descendance from superior William’s Wonder and Northern Lights no.2 indica, as well as a more exotic, virtually unknown short variety believed to be descended from “Mexican Ruderalis,” an experimental cross created over 25 years ago."

EDIT: bw86, sorry for derailing the thread! Hit me up if you need any help.

I don't even like LR #2. Look into AK-47 x LR #2. Thats your best bet if you are going this route.
