tray disitagrating :o whats the best fix?
    #10296130 -

I've had a tin tray with coir/coffee colonizing for about a week or so now.

looked at it this morning and i noticed that the tray (those disposable baking trays) is starting to rot away in places :o
i didnt have this problem with the other try im currently fruiting, maybe it's cuz this ones bigger?

so im thinkin my best bet is to put that tray into another tray, maybe with some cling wrap in between them to help protect it.

guess thats why people say to use palstic tubs... but i didnt have any probs last time so i figured it would work out.

Heard of mushrooms breaking down plastic bags before, not metal tins, could standing water do this?

This has been known for years and it's why I recommend against aluminum baking trays.  It always pays to research before acting.

I did see that people said not to use them.
as i said, i didn't have a problem the first time so i figured it would be ok.
ill have to rethink what i use...

but for the time being, whats the best way to rectify my current situation O.o

prolly because of moisture... the spots are wet too.

i had the same thing happen once, early on. made me a believer. i only use plastic now. myc will definitely tear up thin aluminum pans and then you got holes and possible contams--not to mention all that extra aluminum in the fruit body if it makes it that far.

i dont think that you would get aluminum in your fruits...

maybe some of the base minerals in it.

depending on the amount of colonization you have, you may be able to peel or cut down the sides and move over to a plastic bag and then replace into another aluminum or plastic tray. the plastic bag will help hold your mass of mycelium together from the botton and sides during the transfer. you could actually leave the bag in place until your grow is finished, and you won't get anymore degrading of the aluminum with that p[lastic bag underneith your substrate.
