colonizing casing needs air?
    #1024605 - 11/05/02 04:14 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Hello,

In this post, "I" is used in place of "he"

I want to have a nice even pinset with a couple casings and some spawned dung of mine. I've found that the strain I'm using (Orissa India) really likes to pin prematurely, so I thought I'd keep the casings totally light-free by putting tin foil with no holes over it, and then in a week I hope to open it up to find well-colonized casings I can place in my terrarrium, perfect for pinning. Jars don't need air, so do casings? Has anybody tried sealing them in, thus rendering them pinless until the moment of truth and sealing out those pesky contams?

http://shroomery.org/faq/faq.php?display=faq&nr=56&catnr=4&prog=1&lang=en

"In small setups this incubation period is often achieved by covering the casing container with aluminium/tin foil or an opaque lid. If you use a lid and the lid closes very tightly, some small holes should be poked into the lid to allow for some gas exchange.
If you use foil holes are not needed since the foil doesn?t seal the casing container off completely.
The cover will allow for the CO2to build up within darkness, while maintaining the high RH required for this stage. "
