This exact problem happened to my pavillion dv9000 series. It is a serious problem with the motherboard i believe, it's a hardware issue, and i haven't been able to fix it, despite days of trying.

Just go buy a USB wireless adapter, you should be able to find a refurb'd one for like 20$, this is what I've been using since this happened like a half year ago.

It's not that bad, you'll get used to it.

lol tru.  well, aim and yahoo are instant messenger applications.  but either way, its not biggie....i took out the wires and started it and restarted and nothing.  im prety sure im gona have to send it in to hp.  worst timing tho.  hopefuly the box will be here tommorow to ship it out in, and hopefuly it comes back asap because im hoping on dead tour for a bit of a stint on friday and now it looks like i will be without my laptop which realy can come in handy on tour.  and the bigest problem is, i might be riding the tour out west.  figures.  fuck HP by the way.  after today ive read nothing but tons of problems from lotsa people about this problem. 
i would proly just go out and buy a usb wireless thing, but, ive read somewhere that there is a problem with the motherboards on these things and if i dont send it in to get it replaced the motherboard will fry out and possibly crash my hard drive.  so i figure i might as well get the whole shabang.  thanks for the help tho guys!
