Rah! Help! Wireless on Laptop just stopped working

so i have an hp pavilion dv2000 series.  running on vista unfortunately.  umm, an amd turion x2 64 bit processor.
anyhoo, i was in the middle of chatting with a friend on instant message and all of a sudden all my online applications got knocked off.  happens occasionaly and all it needs to fix is a restart usualy.  well, when i went to restart....the light on the front which is supposed to be blue if its working was not.  it was orange, and the button was on.  i went into device manager and it dont recognize any wireless card.  i called the company and had to talk to some idiot indian dude that i could barely understand and didnt know what he was doing, as it took him forever to offer suggestions of what to do to fix.  and after a very lame attempt at trying he just suggested that they send me a box to mail the computer out to them in. 
but that will take roughly 5 days to fix.  im on my dads comp now but, this is balls. 
im reading online, and there are alota hp users that have had this problem.  some of them have seemed to figure out how to fix it, but i cant realy get any specific ways to resolve as the people that have fixed it are for more knowledgable about computers than me it seems, as i cant understand how to go about doingwhat they did to fix.
one guys suggested downloading and flashing bios?
i dont even know what that means.  can anyone help me out here or offer any other suggestions.
i gather im going to backup my data and do a system restore to see if that works....
someone mentioned resetting the wireless card? 
rah...this is balls.  i wish i woulda done my homework before i got this computer as i woulda seen all these issues people had and considered something else.
but i mean, it was a gift from my mom and it was fairly cheap for what it is.
anyhoo, if anyone might be able to give me some advice on fixin this that would be wonderful!

So you have an LED that indicates the wireless is on by blue, correct?

What does orange indicate?

I'm trying firstly to understand if the failure is hardware or software.

orange is the color indicated when the wireless is switched off.

Sounds like you just need to swith it back on then!

Do you know how to do that?

Is it turned on in the BIOS?

the button is switched in the right position.
device manager doesnt notice and wireless card.
im still tryin to figure out how to get into bios.  lol
i thought i did before but, it just brought me to like a black screen with a few lines of text more or less describing the boot order
it didnt look like what i remember bios being back in the day when i actualy knew about computers.

As soon as you turn it on its usually the delete button or F2, it is sometimes a different button but it usually tells you what the button is while its booting.

The BIOS is usually a blue screen menu.  You'll know it when you see it.

I reckon its switched off in the BIOS for some reason.  Probably a glitch with that model of laptop.

to access the majority of BIOSs, either ESC, DEL, F-2 or  CTRL-S


normally it's delete, hold it down from the time you power it on

I have a compaq and it has the same indicator led light/button. Blue means wireless is turned on. Orange means it is turned off.

Google turned up this. Sounds like it fits your situation to a "T".

so im in bios now.  it says, phoenixbios setup utility
but it i cant seem to find where it shows anything about anything other than....hard drive self test
and memory test

DeadPhan, if you will follow that link it will offer up some suggestions on how to get the wireless back up again. Some believe the error has to do with the machine going into sleep/hibernation or with the screensaver.

HP has also extended the warranty to cover this particular issue as it has been a common problem with your model.

thats for all the advice, but still not workin.
i cant figure out how to flash the bios tho.
the people that explained it seemed to cut corners in describing what to do.
and being fairly technologicaly challenged well, i cant figure it out.

I am by no means an expert but have had my fair share of issues over the years with PCs. That said the first thing I would do is to get the official BIOS update from HP that is supposed to remedy this problem from this link here. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277#

altho im confused.
when i go there, the site tells me that, the latest version of bios for my line of computer is version f.39
but when i go to the site and tell them what kind of computer i have they end up offering me version f.27?  wierd.  o well, ima try that anyway and see what happens

hey there as a comp tech by day stoner by night lol i could give you a little advise i had a similar model in the shop the other day with the problem that the device manager did not show nor recognize a wireless adapter.so what i did is went to the bottom of the laptop and there are little compartments you can unscrew and one has your ram and there is another one that will have your wireless card in it .turn the computer off unplug the wireless card turn comp back on run it for a few then turn it off and plug card back in on the reboot go to add a device if it does not recognize it by itself if in the add device list you cant find it then i would say your card is toasted and if your warranty covers it then send it in .hope this helps

there should b 2 little wires that plug into it unplug them and make shure u mark witch one comes from what plug

unplug them and then take the card out....or just unplug them?  also, how do i unplug them?  there are 2 screws there.....but it almost seemed like they were soldered in as when i try to unscrew em they dont wana budge.  i might just need some more elbow grease but....i just didnt wana snap em off or anything.
