Looks like a Gyromitra to me. Poisonous, sometimes deadly. They have a chemical which is converted to monomethylhydrazine by the liver. Monomethylhydrazine is a component of rocket fuel and causes cancer.

If you click on the full article ,they call it another name and say its not edible ,the newspaper was calling it some sort of morel ,the dude that found it knew it was not edible and called it a beefheart or some nonsence,

Yep beefstake, all the rednecks around here hunt for them. They always tell me that there is some special way you have to cook them so they wont be deadly.
I just stick to true morels because they are plentiful here in MI.:dancingbacon:

I guess this is Gyromitra caroliniana, a false morel.

Apparently they can get a lot bigger than that.  (up to 23 lbs)
