If you can create a sterile room and a bunch of those martha stewert type racks... stack up all around the room and add some type of humidifier it might work... Then again, you would need a lot of experience to pull it off.

Capsules don't store well. The destruction of the cell wall in the grinding process exposes more psilo's to faster degradation, even in the relative protective capsule and dark botttles in a freezer.

If you are looking for only 5-10 pounds dry you should be able to produce that from roughly 10-40 square feet of surface area of deep beds of bulk substrate, over 4 or 5 flushes. Depends how good you are. I've seen 3/4 pound dry per square foot over a 5 week flushing period before. at that you'll need 6.66-13.33 square feet of cropping area and no mistakes. If you're pretty good grower, I'd say you'll need twice that much area. If you've never grown on a large scale before, you'll need at least 40 sq. feet. You'll need an area large enough to give you a 5-1 Air to Bed Ratio. Ventilation system to encourage entrainment, while allowing for fine tuning of fresh air, air circulation, air REcirculation as well as temp and humidity control. Lotsa jars, lotsa bags, lotsa grain, lotsa straw/dung/poo/compost, lotsa casing mix, lotsa balls, lotsa risk. A method for preparing all that substrate and most definitely an innovative drying solution.

Thats all the help you should need if you are able to pull it off. Everything else you should be able to find online, in the books, or infer for yourself.

Be careful.
Don't talk about this kind of thing anymore.
Bad for you,
bad for the community.

Oh yeah, you let contamination get out of hand with something like that and you'll have to move out of that apartment.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

have you tried simmering millet in a four gallon tub for two hours, draining, placing  the millet in five "grow-pans" with a square foot of grow room[each], wrapping in plastic wrap until cool, spraying the entire suface with spore solution [at least one full print per 10-12cc syringe], covering with an inch and a half peat moss & african violet mix and allowing these little pans to sit until you see growth [keeping fingers out although that voice in your head is saying "look nothing's happening"]

No... you actually have to sterilise millet.
Or anything for that matter. Simmering doesnt cut it.

spewed 4th, many people simmer and then drain thier millet before PCing it in order to out the starches that would later cause it to clump and prevent effective shaking, not as a substitute for the PCing.

how deep were the beds that the 7.5 lbs came from?

Did you really mean to re: me? Did I say anything about 7.5 pounds?
The highest yielding per unit area beds I've seen were about 6-7 inch deep straw/dung high spawn rate. I've actually seen a 4 inch deep straight straw heavily spawned bed come pretty close though for some reason.

Deep beds, high spawn rates, good pin set, multiple flushes; 1 pound dry per sq. foot is possible.

Unless it's a question about something specific I've already posted, I don't really want to continue this conversation. It makes me very uneasy, for the cultivator considering something this dangerous as well as for the community that allows it's discussion in public forums. When you are ready to pull something like that off, you will already know how. Discussing further almost seems as if it's encouraging it, which I certainly don't. I'm just saying what's possible.

yes, mycofile, absolutely... if yur ready for something this big, you will already know how. and you'll be in it for much more than the first batch. If you want to be set for life, make an outdoor patch. make a few, make 10. who cares, its outdoors, many shrooms for years. There are outdoor patches everywhere in BC. most arent recognizable as a "patch", just because they've been there so long... it just looks like mushrooms are growing everywhere.

Myco, would you be able to describe the refernece to your claim of caps not storing well? WIthout even considering freezing, I assumed if they were kept 100% dry, preservation held well, no matter the form (ground, ground in caps, whole)...please explain or refer me to the info. Thanks, --Ec0

No reference to cite, just years of experience growing and stashing. I too once had the hopes of growing enough to set me for life before I quite the hobby. Well, turns out that my generosity at festifals and gatherings got the best of that plan, but luckily I've made enough friends in my day to supply me with what little recreation I need these days.

Anyway, yeah, I've stored shrooms for years. Ground up and capped doesn't store as well as whole shrooms, regardless of other preservation methods. My opinion is that grinding the shrooms to powder destroys the cellular structures that are protecting the magic, thus allowing them to breakdown faster. Don't get me wrong, caps store well for months on end just sitting in a jar. They store even longer in a light proof jar in the freezer. But this dudes talking about set for life, meaning he needs to store for life. Dry them fast and whole, vacuum seal them if you can, and keep them in the freezer proteced from light. That's the best storage you can do without a freezedryer.
