phishhead's Georgia Morel Finds
    #10081681 -

phishhead emailed me some pictures of morels that he's been finding in GA and he wanted me to post them for him. These are some big ass morels. I think he found them around Alpharetta. When I was in GA two weeks ago I managed to find 1 black and 1 grey in the north Gwinnett area right as the season was beginning. I have pics on my phone, I'll post them later.

Since I no longer live in GA, I figure a good friend might as well share my morel patches while I'm gone, so my hunting buddy is gonna show phishhead my patches. Hopefully we'll be seeing more pics from him soon. And before you ask... NO, I will NOT share my patches with you. Sorry.

And for the hell of it, some old pics of mine:

That's what I was thinking. I've never found them growing in sand, but he found that one right next to a river. I can only imagine that morel would be the most gritty mushroom ever eaten.

Nope not at all, i find them near sandy stream banks all the time and they are just the same as any other morel.

just use a soft brissle brush to wash it softly  and it was totally fine no grit at all...

most morels that grow in loose sand, grow with the sand. that is the sand gets engulfed by the mushroom tissue. at least all the ones i have found cleaned had sand embedded in the mushroom.

all in all its a really sweet pic! reminds me of a beached blond basking in the sun

I'm gonna let phishhead answer questions about the pics. I'm too lazy to add captions tonight.

thanks gumby, i found 6 and a half pounds yesterday in about a 3 hour search so not too bad! will be going out again today to hopefully have the same kinda luck. All found next to a small river under poplars, sycamores, and river birch. They see to really love poplars which are the trees that the bark peels on its way up and they drop those orangy yellow bals that turn into fuzz when they break up.

No offense dude but these forums are more than just people trying to find things to trip on, and from what ive seen of your posts you are only interested in mushrooms that do this. Not saying it is bad to have specific interests, just don't expect everything here to be related to that.

That said - I trip out on morels because they are delicious.
