Geothermal energy
    #10078607 -

So i just finished watching a pretty interesting doco on nat geo. apparently the future of this energy scource is looking pretty grim.

They were talking about how once the natural steam from the springs they were using was all gone, they have to pipe treated recycled water in from nieghboring citys lol....

thoughts?

I dont know why we are wasting our time with wind, tidal, thermal etc.......... solar is where it at:thumbup:

Lots of places on the Earth don't get enough light to make solar viable but may have one of the other sustainable sources in abundance.

Right, solar has a definite place in the future energy economy; but it will not a majority of future energy production.  No one technology has the ability to be the silver bullet - except for fusion.

But the heat is still there. All you need to do is pump water in, and it comes out as steam.

The Australians discovered that you don't even need a geologically-active site to do that. The granite bedrock is hot enough (from natural radioactivity) to produce steam practically anywhere in the world. They estimate there's easily enough heat in the ground to power the entire planet.
So no, the future isn't looking grim, in fact it's better than ever
