ID, with pics, Auburn, AL

I am in Auburn for a wedding.

I went to the rehearsal yesterday and it happened to be right next to a cowfield, so while my wife was rehearsing, my 6 month old son and I went shrooming!

The weather has been wet in recent days, but not necessarily humid, like it will be all summer in Auburn.  The ground was soft but not muddy, and the temp was about 65 F.

The specimens I saw were under shady trees growing on cow dung.  The elongated caps were about 2-3 inches long, and the texture and color of the caps resembled Chlorophyllum molybdites.

I am genuinely curious about this.

I thought someone could give me a quick answer, because I saw some pics of an identical specimen on a recent thread within the last week.

It looked like a skinny egg on a stem with the color and texture of Chloropyllum molybdites.

I can't find the thread that had the similar pic, but if I remember correctly, a trusted identifier dubbed it an edible inactive.

You are there for a WEDDING!  Get your self a camera and go out there for some shots if you want definite answers!! And if you relate it to Chlorophyllum molybdites then nothing good can come from then and I don't think it'd be edible, The first sentence I came across on google was "No mushroom causes more cases of mushroom poisoning in North America than Chlorophyllum molybdites"


But then again, It also states that it's a lawn dweller, Not a dung inhabitant.

So it sounds like a possible mistaken ID, I think I do know of what mushrooms you were referring too though, They look like the easter eggs. Except much more elongated. Hope that helps a bit, And maybe after I get back home I can look up that post you were talking about.

Yeah, this mushroom is definitely not a Chlorophyllum molybdites.

I just said that it shares the color and texture.

I disagree that since it "relates to a Chlorophyllum molybdites, that nothing good can come from it."

I am aware that Cm's are poisonous, but it is definitely not that species.

I am asking for help with an ID, so how could I have mistaken an ID?

I thought it was pretty clear that I was comparing the unknown species to a Cm.

But thanks for the "help."

Yeah, I misunderstood your post completely. I was in a rush to leave and thought were hinting at it being ID'ed  as possibly being a cm, but obviously not. And yeah, That's link above is exactly the fungi I think we both saw in that post a week or 2 back.  Sorry for confusing your post.

At least that's what it looks like in pics. Alot of people think they are a choice edible(when young), but i can never get past the texture once they start to digest themselves like they are doing in pics 1, 3, & 4 they are no longer edible. Do not eat any, however, until you have a positive id, it should have a black spore print. Check a reputable guide to make sure all other characteristics are correct.
