So you think it's censored, but not as censored as I think it is?

great points innvertigo... i think u and i see things on the same level... my response was not to the original post but to one of pinksharks subsequent posts.

i can definitely appreciate a love for original principles of america... if only it were in the hands of the people... corporations and huge money dictate policy behind the scenes...

if pinksharks point was, hey look ... we're finally getting news! i say cool to that... but understand that u'll only read what has been filtered... a good book to read would be noam chomsky's "manufacturing consent"(for the record, i know chomsky has his own agenda)... it clearly lays out how media is in hip pockets of specific power... i don't know what to make of this news... i haven't read this myself... i know there are reporters still in iraq... it would make sense that he expell anyone he felt posed a threat from a security standpoint.

good points were made why he would be releasing prisoners... anytime we receive news of this nature, it is released in a way develope consensus... we should keep an eye out on the spin and make decisions later

i'm not sure i'm a statist, because i don't feel we have leaders holding office that we can trust...

my numbers on market loses come from bond traders who no longer have jobs on wall street.... that number is just under 7 trillion lost from pension funds and independent investments made on individual levels... the national debt is somewhere over 6 trillion... thats alot of zeros.... i personally know individuals who lost in upwards of $300,000 on independent positions in addition to what was lost from funds... again, a game they decided to participate in... a game they were seduced into thinking was on the level...

granted, enron is an exagerated example of capitalism gone awry... enron owned , through offshore shellgames, in upwards of 300 of the comapnies the markets assumed were it's competitors... enron caused civil unrest in india... enron claimed to be distributing 50 mega watts of power to communities through transmission lines capable of handling only 15 mega watts of power... enron purchased assets from argentina for pennies on the dollar in many cases through appraisers who purposely underestimated values of these resources... dams, rivers, minerals rights... all ripped off below the surface.... we had a worker at our restaurant who was a banker in argentina... we talked for many hours regarding his country... he assured me the people in argentina understand the nature of the collapse... i realize i'm rambling on... and ur right, i guess pinksharks point wasn't taken in context... and although i wasn't attacking him in anyway i want to apologize for that... be cool

Well, they're one of the few to be caught. What they were doing is fairly standard corporate practise.

****So you think it's censored, but not as censored as I think it is? ****

i sure do but not in the way you think..i think it's censored when it comes to anything that shows a person on the right doing something great...example: when it's election time i noticed that when a Libbie was behind lets say 60% to 40% (with 80% of the ballots counted) it was too close to call..but when a consevative is behind lets say 52% to 48% (with 80% counted) they called the race for the libbie...

basically i think it's extremely biased and censored towards those on the right

are you claiming that your media isn't censored?

In reply to:

Far from it...however when it comes to American news, I suspect we are far less censored. That is why it's important to look at a variety of sources and form your own opinions...

A couple of points:

Hussein stated in no uncertain terms his intention to kick out ALL foreign journalists. There was a timeframe for it, of course, which is why there are still foreign journalists there TODAY. Unless he changes his mind, however, there won't be any left soon. Here are a few snippets from the website of the Independent Federation of Journalists:
http://www.ifj.org/publications/press/pr/431.html --

The Iraqi move announced yesterday (October 24) follows complaints about the reporting of some foreign journalists on assignment in the country. The government says it will allow a small number of correspondents back in, but only if they agree to work under tough new rules. The proposed restrictions will limit foreign news groups to one non-Iraqi journalist per organisation who will be permitted to remain in Iraq for a maximum of 10 days at a time."

"This news is bad for world opinion and bad for Iraq," said White. "People all around the world are hungry for news about what is happening in the region. Evicting journalists will not give them access to the truth, it will only promote ignorance, speculation and rumour."

"We can only conclude that the complaint of bias is just an excuse to intimidate independent media voices."

My point was that what we are seeing in action in this forum is the same censorship so many regular posters claim occurs in the US news media. None of the regular left-leaning contributors here (who will post some long rant ten minutes after rense.com releases a new tidbit claiming that some off-the-cuff comment by an American politician "proves" that Bush knew in advance about a plan to attack the World Trade Center) saw fit to comment on two BIG events. Why? Because the fact these two events took place doesn't fit THEIR idea of something worthy of comment. Hence the silence.

In the last few months there have been dozens of threads dealing with Iraq. Yet the two biggest news stories out of Iraq since the Gulf War are completely ignored.

I believe the only possible explanation for this silence at the Shroomery is that there is a vast left-wing Shroomerite conspiracy to censor these stories since there is no easy way to extract any anti-American mileage from them and they have nothing to do with oil.

Of course, if some of the released violent criminals kill a few more Iraqis, those deaths will be blamed on America: "The victims of those horrible people would still be alive if Bush hadn't forced Saddam to release them. Of COURSE it's America's fault!"

haha... now who needs the tin foil?

i guess you missed my edit; the violent prisoners were only granted amnesty upon approval of the victim, or victim's family

also, why do you consider these 2 tidbits of news to be 'the biggest news since the gulf war'? thats a bold statement!

Couldn't it have something to do with the fact that Iraq simply hasnt been 'newsworthy' up until 9/11, and since Bush has provoked their relations?

Of the journalists that are being kicked out, most of them probably (since i dont know) went into Iraq within the last couple of months since this new 'conflict' started

That's not what the reports I saw stated. EVERYONE (except foreign nationals) was released, regardless of the nature of their crime. No prior consultation was done with anyone. However, violent prisoners have apparently been given thirty days to seek forgiveness from their victims (and families thereof). It was not specified in the reports I read what would happen to those who couldn't obtain forgiveness.

Could be. I read only the first reports, in the Miami Herald (in print) and at CNN.com and ABCNews.com and Reuters.com and IFJ.com and the Manchester Guardian online website on the web. I could have missed followup stories.
