Agar control plate
    #10052327 -

There is nothing better than knowing you've done something right.
I've decided to try my hand at agar so I mixed up a small batch (enough for three small jars. I then inoculated one jar with a B+ spore syringe with just a little bit left, one jar with a stipe sample from a B+, and then left one open and coughed into it(just for fun). I took a look at the open one today (which was my control plate - to make sure I did it properly.

Yep! There are a few spots on my open jar - so at least I know I mixed and PC'd it properly.

The other two are started to show signs of mycelium growth. My question is this - should I go ahead and prepare some more agar plates so I can transfer mycelium growth from the two plates if they have a contam on them>

Yes.  I'd also suggest getting a few sleeves of petri dishes, rather than using jars.  You can usually get them locally in any city with a hospital district.  Check in the phone book for medical laboratory supplies and call them up.  Most lab supply places keep petri dishes in stock.  Plastic are far better than glass in my experience.

I can second that. Plastic are very forgiving (if you drop them or bump into them), also much lighter and less slippery than glass.

Glad to see it's working for you.

Thanks to both of you! I wanted to do plastic but didn't have the plates on hand, just small jars and I wanted to make sure everything worked right before any more purchases.

Again - many thanks! :bow2:
