The 'new' Neapolitan?

On a hot summer day, nothing goes down quite like a frosty cold serving of racist ice cream.

Wait, what did I just write?!?

Okay, so being in media, we tend to develop a sort-of gallows humor about all the craziness we read and pass along to you guys every single day. But, here's a new level of nucking futs: An ice cream maker in Russia (with the very Soviet-sounding name "Ice Cream Plant No 3")  has launched an Obama-themed treat called "Duet," a mixture of vanilla and chocolate.

If that weren't mildly galling enough, the sweet carries a really, really, really dumb ad campaign.

From The Independent:

    Ice Cream Plant No 3 in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg launched a new brand named "Duet" last week. The advert features a computer-generated caricature of a broadly smiling figure resembling Mr Obama standing in front of the US Congress with the ice cream in the foreground. The strapline reads: "It's on everyone's lips – the Dark is in the White!"

    Yevgeny Primachenko, the deputy creative director of Voskhod advertisement agency, said: "We wanted to make the print amusing and cheerful, just as joyful and pleasant as the process of eating an ice cream.

    "This is just a vanilla ice cream with a chocolate filling," he added. "We decided: why not use such a great news peg as the election of the first black US president to the White House?"

Here's the image. We're not responsible for any ice cream headache-like effects it may give you.

I've never been to Russia, so I can't really say whether there's some sort of massive cultural disconnect behind this um ... cream. Either they don't get it, or I don't.

Your thoughts on this Insanity would be enormously helpful here.
