Websters Dictionary adds 'w00t'
    #7757753 - 12/14/07 10:16 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

The interweb is taking over the real world.

Quote:

w00t (interjection):
expressing joy (it could be after a triumph, or for no reason at all); similar in use to the word “yay”

w00t! I won the contest!

This year’s winning word first became popular in competitive online gaming forums as part of what is known as l33t (”leet,” or “elite”) speak—an esoteric computer hacker language in which numbers and symbols are put together to look like letters. Although the double “o” in the word is usually represented by double zeroes, the exclamation is also known to be an acronym for “we owned the other team”—again stemming from the gaming community.

I gotta be the first to say it:

I hate this kind of shit.  So much internet slang is just completely retarded.

I'm with Rooster, time to abandon the English language as it drifts off into endless three letter monikers, stupid pointless memes, and needless abbreviations to confuse the hell out of you.  I guess I am not "l33t" enough.

But i'm suprised as hell that numbers got into the dic.

I just don't think it should ever be said aloud...but I'm all for cyberwooting. That t at the end though, when coming out of someone's mouth...I mean we're talking about some pretty unavoidable spittle action here.

And make sure you have a ginormous copy of Webster's dictionary handy so when the teacher tells you it's not proper vocabulary you can do like this guy:

That's not the definition. That's the etymology; the history of the word.

The definition is: a style of Southern rap music featuring repetitive chants and rapid dance rhythms

Which is fucking wrong. My defintion would be

verb:
The act of becoming or being inebriated.
"I'm going to get so crunk at the party tonight."

adjective:
a activity that is exciting.
"That G-Unit show last night was so fucking crunk, nigga!"

It is the job of dictionaries and encyclopedias to recollect all these words and document them.

That way, if say an 80 year old came across this word and didn't know what it means, he can look in his copy of websters and find out.

Or in 100 years, if this word isn't used any more researchers can still find out it's meaning in a Websters.
