I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that english has something like 500 bazillion more words then pretty much every other language on the planet combined {which is an obvious gross over-exaggeration, naturally...but you know what I'm saying}
and after skimming through that site, and chuckling to myself about how funny these people speak - I remembered the fact that they simply don't have the same vocabulary we do...and it made me wonder if *maybe* the reason why these translation tools I use from time to time, which always seem so off kilter, isn't so much because the translator itself is bunk...but rather - they simply don't have the same terminology / sentence structure / etc that we have here
MAYBE I don't suck as much with other languages as I thought I did, and my attempts at giving various translations throughout the years has only sounded funny because what comes out of it truly is the best approximation that can be made
cause it's either that, or I just suck at translating...and I'd rather blame the language itself then my own ineptitude

English has so many words because tens of thousands of them are loan words from various other languages.
Sentence structure varies a shiteload between languages, and yeah that'd be why the translators are so pox. They only provide literal translations.

Did you graduate high school? They had to teach you this in one of your foreign language credit courses.

"multiple" other languages, especially Latin and French. On top of Anglic. It's why we have three words for everything. The Frenchier words were 'upper class'.
"Dying" becomes "moribund", etc.

I like how most of our "curse words" have saxon roots, while the more acceptable terms are derived from latin.

Agreed, it's goofy. Sometimes the Anglic is a better choice. Consider the difference between "cunt" and "vagina". One is overly specific medical jargon referring specifically to the birth canal, the other is a perfectly useful word denoting a woman's reproductive organs. But you can't say cunt without offending somebody.
