Help with hail
    #10040908 -

So my car got fucked up by golf-ball to soft-ball sized hail today. it has dents on the hood, roof, and trunk, and theres a hole in the black plastic trim by my windshield wipers.

today has been shitty overall, but this took the cake for sure. many of the people in my apartment complex have lost their windshields, and one had its side-view mirror knocked off.

anyhow, I have State Farm for my insurance, has anyone ever dealt with them in hail situations? my car isnt half as bad as some of these peoples', so i keep hearing that insurance might not cover me. one girl advised that i beat my car with a bag of ice to make it worse.

anybody ever been turned down b/c the damage wasnt bad enough? anyone know how bad the damage needs to be? how can i positively exploit this situation?

Eh, if there was widespread hail damage, your insurance will probably cover it. My parents recently had hardcore hail damage to their roof and had to have the entire house reshingled. Insurance paid for everything but the deductible.

fair enough, but if i take the car to have a claims adjuster look at it, and they say it isn't enough damage, can i get a second opinion, or will that be the end of it?

Couldn't tell you really. I've heard of people getting screwed out of $1500 worth of hail damage. It's kinda hit or miss.

It works.  It's pretty cheap and can usually be found at drug stores or Walmart.  The black plastic thing (wiper cowl) will have to be replaced.  Shouldn't cost much.  Does insurance usually cover hail damage?  I know people who's insurance wouldn't pay for flood damage, hail would likely be in the same category.

Insurance fraud isn't recommended but you could always take a water balloon and freeze it then smash it on your car, then it should be enough damage.. if not you'll go to jail and have a broken car... choices

Hail damage insurance is pretty common in areas where it happens frequently. If you've seen 2 inch hail, you'll understand why it's necessary.

Do you pay extra for it?  Never seen the option to do so on my insurance plan.

they cant say there isnt enough damage, unfortunately the damage
can be less than the deductable, if so, there's options for
paintless dent removal for  hail damage

state farm is reputable, everyone I've known claiming anything
that was legit and even most people pulling fraudulent claims
were paid

Nah, it's included in "weather/wind insurance" I believe. Flood insurance is extra though.

yeah my moms about to have to pay for flood insurance. were from long island, and they are expanding the flood area or some shit and requiring homeowners in the new areas to have flood insurance. i think if you pay for it before they enforce it its cheaper or something so i think thats whats happening.

some of the tools are a little redundant, that set runs about $500
but can access any part of the car on any car, depending on where
the dent is located there may only be a need for one tool, bit
there's also a reason a lot of people specialize in paintless dent
removal, so you dont have to buy the tools and learn to use them

it's fuckloads cheaper than a body shop or gluing something to
your car just to pull the paint off when you try and pull the dent

this is just one more time i got my shit together, started to save money, and some random shit fucked it all up. i drove over so much busted out glass from windshields that i'll probably need a new tire or four, too.

thank god i just got a grip on some OG Kush! :vaped:

yes, pris is right here.  I work for an insurance company, the only way you will not be covered is if its not part of your policy (have liability only or something), or if the deductible is more than the damage...say you have a 1k deductible, and the damage is only $800, its not going to be covered, which is fine, as its STILL cheaper than you would be paying for your deductible anyways.  Not only that, filing a claim has a high chance of your rates going up, its not guaranteed, especially if you have never had one, but there is good chance, but thats the business.

Oh, and the woman who said beat it with some ice is an idiot, you would more than likely raise the amount of damage over your deductible, then get to pay more...sounds like a great idea.  Also, if an adjuster comes out that is worth a damn, he can usually spot this easily.  We have had people beat up their roofs with ball pin hammers, beat their cars with golf balls in socks, and big bags of marbles, all kinds of shit.  Then, if you do that, you get to have your insurance cancelled immediately and absolutely no help, and possible prosecution for insurance fraud.

good luck.

peace
