so, the assault rifles make up a little over 10% of all the weapons owned by civilians, and based on someone's earlier statistic, ALL rifle deaths only make up 3%, which would also include all bolt action and non assault rifles.  Damn, i sure hope this ban goes through to protect us all, since they cause SO much damage...

Whoever said its to look good by banning the demonized assault weapon is absolutely correct, it will do nothing to lower crime deaths...those that use them for criminal purposes will continue to do so whether they are legal or not, and only the law abiding citizens will be without, GREAT way to protect everyone, give them only to the criminals...is this not blatantly obvious?

And the answer to why i need one, its primarily used at this time for enjoyment, i like to take it out the range, and fire off some rounds, i get great joy out of hitting a target open sighted with my sks at 200yds, why?  I don't know, but i do.  Secondly, it could be useful in mid-range combat, to get off many rounds quickly, though they are very weak.  If i wanted to do real damage to somebody, i would pull out my deer rifle with a scope, and hit from 400yds with knockdown power, and still enough velocity to pierce body armor...the entire 'assault weapons are not needed and dangerous' argument is evidently flawed, since they over time have proven to cause so much crimes.  The banning only takes them from law abiding citizens, not those that commit the crimes, they will continue to commit the crimes, and usually with their ILLEGALLY obtained handgun, not their legally obtained assault rifles.

I'm not a hunter nor will I ever be but If I was I'd be using an AR15 semi auto rifle. It's practically an assault rifle. I fail to see why it couldn't be used for hunting

bullshit, I have a friend that exclusively hunts with an SKS, I
have hunted with my AR-15, the AR-10 is chambered in .308 and
there's thousands of others out there that do hunt with these
rifles, they're not under powered and if you know how to shoot
you'll take a deer with one shot
