electric blanket with a aquarium heater thermostat

my aquarium heater recently broke. i have since got a new one but i opened the broken one (only the glass broke). it seems to me that i could wire the heater up to an electric blanket and if the aquarium thermostat was wrapped in the blanket that it would turn itself off when it got to temp. most aquarium heater thermostats work by a magnet which attracts a piece of metal which makes an electrical link. when it heats up the metal expands and breaks the link.

anybody ever try anything like this

if i would think an electric blanket would be more than the 50 watts or whatever your heater is. You might have better luck with using heating cable of some kind.

the power doesnt really matter. the heaters ranging from 50-300W in the shop all had the same thermostat. most electric blankets i have seen are under 300W. some have thermostats too but the settings were all above 30C
