What is a healthy amount of masturbation?

We all know that never masturbating is actually bad for you. Studies have shown it screws with your prostate, and the mental effects must be pretty horrific too. However, masturbating too frequently is probably unhealthy too, but in different ways. So there must be a middle ground where it is actually healthy, both physically and emotionally.

So what do you guys think a good logical medial ground is? Once a day? Once a week?

I'm currently going at twice a day, and I think it is affecting my reward pathway.

healthy masturbation is as much masturbation as you feel like doing as long as its not interfering with things you need to get done

People often forget that YOUR BODY knows when to do things. People get fucked up trying to adhere to "schedules" and limits.

I eat when I am hungry, drink when I am thirsty, nap when I am tired and jerk off when I feel the urge.

As long as it doesn't interfere with important things or cross any weird social gray area.. . I try to control myself at work. :smirrk:

I normally do it anywhere from 3 times a day to once a week. Generally once a day or so though I'd say, and of course I've gone to extremes (more often than not more than 3 times rathers than longer than a week though), but that's fairly rare.

I haven't noticed a difference either way. If I'm tired and can't sleep though, specially since I'm not smoking pot now, I wank one and pass right out. It's great :smile:

Anyone (Chiefgreenlead?) care to give any kind of details on the advantages of not masturbating, or not doing it so frequently? I do it pretty regularly, and afaik, have done so for awhile.

The psychological benefits are very subtle. I wouldn't say that most people will like it.

For me, it gives me more energy. Before I gave it up, I was always groggy in the mornings, it was hard for me to wake up. Defiantly wasn't a morning person. Now I wake up at around 6 every morning without an alarm. My body just knows when to get up and I feel very refreshed.

I can also vouch for increased immunity. I have been sick once since I started. Before I had a very weak immune system and was sick maybe once a month. My body seems to heal faster.

I also feel more alert and creative. I am a musician and I can defiantly tell that it makes the creative process easier. I seem to lean faster too.

In all, I just feel better all around. How would I say it? I guess my aura feels stronger too. I have found I can control social encounters just by thinking on which direction I want them to take (this is probably a result of all the stiff I do, though this helps) :cool:

The way I see it, cum is very costly for the body to make and uses a lot of your body's free energy, life-force, chi, prana, whatever you want to label it. Why do females live longer then males? My take on it is that all species of male die quicker because we sex up and lose a lot of our energy through ejaculation. Sex is ok as long as you don't cum, with practice you will have multiple orgasms without ejaculation (you will learn to suck up the female's energy, tantric sex FTW). So if I don't cum then all the minerals, phospholipids (the brain's main building blocks), energy that would normally be expelled gets to be used in other ways like tissue construction, nerve cell rewiring, endocrine balancing, etc.

Like I said though, it probably won't do much if your abusing your body. The orgasm contains a lot of energy but just because you conserve it doesn't mean it will be used in helpful ways. Most people's chakras are WAYY too out of balance.

Pythagoras, Issac Newton, Confucius, (too name a few) were very big into these ideas. I think it contributed to there genius.

If you want some more info there is plenty on the web, I would recommend reading some taoist opinion on the subject and check out the practice of brahmacharya. A good book is The Multi-Orgasmic Man by Mantek Chia and Douglass Adams.

Thanks for the tips man, I'm going to look into this. I'm always interested in these types of things. I'm artistic and I meditate to go after more or less the same things, so I'm sure it'll work for me, if there's any merit to it. Whether I'll have the willpower however, I don't know. Sounds like it takes a lot of discipline to get there, but I normally don't do things for the end result, but the journey there.

Ok, well here goes day 1. It's now been... I was about to say 24 hours, but then I remembered I masturbated when I wokeup this morning rofl. Ok, so here's the first 13 hours. I'ma see how long I can keep this up though.

I'm sure I will, but if it works out (still skeptical, just trying it out) it's not like wacking it off, say.. once a week or so, should have nearly as much impact as a couple times a day or something. There might be something to it. I still haven't done much reading though, just been distracted with other things.

Personally, I go through like a male monthly cycle. Almost like 2 3/4 weeks off, 1 1/4 on. So sometimes it's weeks apart, sometimes a few times a week.

In fact, I was so intrigued about this question, I made a 'Beet roster' when I was in high school. Had every single Yr12 male on it. There was even a 'Beet challenge' for who could 'beet' the most. One guy claimed to have gone 16 times in a day!

I think more than once a day is getting a bit much. I too might try your idea daytripper. Mass masturbation boycott!!
