Kellogg's gets its comeuppance

Out of the 5,600 company reputations Vanno monitors, Kellogg ranked ninth before it booted Phelps. Now it's ranked 83. Not even an industry-wide peanut scare inflicted as much damage on the food company's reputation.

Apparently this is more toxic for them than the peanut scare.

me neither. All their cereals are either packed with high fructose corn syrup, or you can buy the Malt-O-Meal bags of cereal for half of what Kellogg's brand costs.

Except they have so many subsidiaries it's hard to tell what's under the Kellogg's umbrella. I do buy a lot of Kashi stuff, and I think I read somewhere that Kashi is under Kelloggs.

9th to 83rd? That's quite a drop. I don't really blame them from from dropping Phelps, but I'm happy to see the support he has gotten from the public.

I'm inclined to believe that the drop has more to do with the "Oh my god what happened to my children's role model" people abandoning the brand, than it does the dopers.

However, that is an assumption based on no knowledge of the metrics used to determine standings.

I'm inclined to agree.  However, if they still see Michael Phelps as a role model, I think it says something about the progress that's been made in terms of social attitudes toward marijuana.

If you have a BJs or Sams club or something, just buy the huge bag O' corn flakes and the 6 pound bag of frozen strawberries. Thaw out a few each night in your fridge, and toss them in with the flakes come morning.

Fuck Kelloggs!

This is correct. I used to like Kashi but now its taste has become somewhat bland. My money will go elsewhere.

I don't think i have ever met a person that buys Kellogg's because Phelps was or wasn't on a box of freaking cereal. If they try to say their sales are down because of Phelps smoking weed that is a bunch of bullshit. It's down because of how they handled the whole thing. I believe there are way more stoners in the world than everyone thinks, and they were pissed off at Kellogg's for being fucks about it. I know i stopped buying Kellogg's because they are standing in the way of a movement that has been going on for 70+ years, and that is to legalize/decriminalize Cannabis. By dropping him they made Cannabis a wicked thing to do like the government tries to portray. If he got a DUI i bet they would have done nothing. Everyone knows Cannabis laws are bullshit, and when Kellogg's dropped him they basically backed every Reefer Madness ad. At least thats my stoned opinion atm.

I think most of it's subconscious. Whether that's because someone saw Phelps as a role model or because they smoked weed, I don't think there's that many people going into the store saying "fuck Kellogs."

While I disagree with them dropping Phelps, it's not gonna stop me from  buying their products. Just second guess it.

Re: Kellogg's gets its comeuppance [Re: Kada]

I don't buy their shit cos it's expensive.  If, however, I get a hankering for a bowl of Special K, no political situation in the world will stop me.

I'm pretty sure sponsoring Phelps didn't make me more likely to buy the brand and hence them NOT sponsoring Phelps will not make me less likely to buy from them.

It just depends on whether my desire for the product outweighs the cost to my wallet. Lol.  I don't care about Phelps or the marijuana situation, tbh.  If I want a bag of weed I can get that pretty easy too regardless of how much the government try to stop me.

So fuck you world imma ignore all this bullshit and eat my cereal and smoke my bong (and then eat more cereal)

Kellogg was outspoken on his beliefs on race and segregation, in spite of the fact that he himself adopted a number of black children. In 1906, Kellogg founded—together with Irving Fisher and Charles Davenport—the Race Betterment Foundation, which became a major center of the new eugenics movement in America. Kellogg was in favor of racial segregation and believed that immigrants and non-whites would damage the gene pool. Also, Kellogg gave a large portion of the common stock of the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company to the Race Betterment Foundation. Whether any of that stock has been converted into Kellogg Company stock is unknown.
