Hey Twirling, like others have already pointed out there's some great sites to see in Amsterdam but it's also worth looking around outside of the city and seeing the rest of this beautiful country (I feel like I'm in a tourism commercial). People have already pointed out some of the beautiful cities.

If you wanna see something you wont see every day come check it out here in April-May when the tulips are coming in. Pretty cool.
Another suggestion is to go check out the Waddenzee. It's a part of the ocean where the tide goes all the way down and you can walk around on the ocean floor. :awesome:

Foss1l- good point on telling people to get out of Amsterdam to explore the country side. I see way too many tourists that end up in a coffee house the whole time and while that may be fun there's so much cool stuff to see.

They outlawed mushrooms because a French tourist on shrooms (and alcohol) tossed herself into a canal and died. Much like in the US, politicians exploited this story to monger up fear about the dangers of shrooms. I'm happy to report that this ban has not been implemented very well. It's business as usual.

i went to amsterdam. i pretty much got fucked up and slept the whole time. i did shrooms twice. E. a shit load of coke. i almost did peyote but we were leaving the next day and i figured i would still have been fucked up. i was pretty much always drunk and high. had some good weed hot chocolate , space cakes , ummmm oh besides drugs and alcohol?

sex museum
sex shows
red light district.
van gogh museum.
SHOPPING.

belgium was nice too.

and i want to go back.

That reminds me of the first time I went there. Tons of drugs and odd things. I remembered seeing a really weird sex show that involved a tape measure and a certain part of a woman's anatomy. :rofl:

Belgium's beautiful too. Reminds me, I gotta stop by there soon. :strokebeard:

YEA I watched a bunch of people having sex...at the same time. and i was pretty drunk, coked out, fucked up, high...and it was defintley an experience to remember. not saying i want to do it WHEN :wink: i go back.

its each to its own. what it will be  like is directly congruent to how you enter it and what your goals for entering it are  for. quiet frankly it was any differnt from me going to a party in any other city.

Yeah, and that picture of the tulips looks awesome as well. I'd love to see more of the country side if I ever were to go. I've heard traveling can be difficult, at least by car. Is this true? How would you recommend getting around?

I keep reading that Amsterdam is touristy, so where would you guys recommend staying/visiting instead? Keeping in mind that traveling might be an issue unless by tram, or what have you.

Really, going to Amsterdam just for the drugs would be like going to Venice just to sit around in a restaurant all day stuffing yourself with Italian cuisine. Yes, it's nice to do, but you'd be missing out...

I think I just want to hope there is a place on Earth I'd actually want to call "home". There are some areas in the U.S. that I'd probably enjoy the people, but I really despise our drug laws.

i stopped in the city on my way to the shroomery gathering for a couple of hours.

basically i got off the train and walked into the city, passed MANY very shady looking
coffie shops which seem to be sort of "flycatchers" for tourists who cannot wait
to wander atleast into the city and get stuck immediately.

anyways, i liked how it looked with all the little canals and tons of bicycles everwhere
then i settled down in the bluebird for some smoke, really nice !

however i found it to be sort of expensive but i wasnt expecting anything else.

a nice city, however not really a "have to be there atleast once" destination.
