Ipod Stuck And Wont Format!? Help!?

Rahhh!  so, i turned my 5 month old ipod on the other day and the battery was dead.  o well i thought....gona be an hour or so before i head out.  so i plug it into charge and an error message comes up sayin, ipod needs to connect to itunes to format.  i was like fuck, im gona loose all my muic and i dont have it backed up.  luckily i still had the torrents in my list so i just redownloaded.  so, now i try to reformat it and its not being recognized by itunes.  windows recognizes it as well as device manager but windows is unable to format it as well.  is there an third party program that might bypass this shit.  when i plug my ipod into computer it charges, then a message pops up sayin, itunes needs to reformat ur ipod, would u like to do this?
i say yes and it loads itunes but no ipod in sight in itunes.  what the fuck man.  anyone ever have this problem. 
total bullshit.  ive had this ipod since september and have barely ever dropped it and if i ever did i have a rubber casing on it so its never hit hard.
rah, anyone got any pointers?

Let it charge then unplug it and do that reset thing so it turns on with the apple logo

iDump works great!! It can take stuff off your ipod and put it onto your harddrive too... something itunes wont do.
