Re: When will the gulf stream breakdown? [Re: ApJunkie]

additionally, since both of those currents are driven primarily by density variations (caused by both temperature and salinity), all it would take to shut down the Atlantic energy train is a flood of cold freshwater from up north.

ya know.... like Greenland melting or something.

My point is that the current warming trend can be attributed to natural processes. The climate has been warming for the last 12000 years. what's new? Also the planet has changed the climate on its own in the past much more profoundly than the human race is currently capable of. I don't see anything to suggest that the current warming is anything more than normal.
I believe that ocean currents may change. Oceanic currents have been changing since the oceans formed billions of years ago through the repositioning of the continents. Change is what the earth is all about, how can we expect things will always be the same as far as the climate goes.
And yes, pollution is bad.

Shittttt I better move soon lol. Change is always pretty funny anyway.

Your point doesn't matter, if the gulf stream breaksdown we  europeans are fucked all the same. Even if it is global warming it's far too late to really do anything about it.

Global warming today is nothing more than fear mongering

We knew the earth was in a warming trend way back in the '40s and '50s

The theory that we are causing global warming is a recent trend that I disagree with

As a meteorologist, I agree with you. ApJunkie brings up one of the biggest current debates in the field. We know that the earth is warming, but the debate of whether or not it is anthropogenic is a hot one.

Our oldest samples of atmospheric climate data comes from ice cores in Antarctica. The oldest samples we have are roughly 750,000 years old. The earth is 4.5 BILLION years old. Life originated around 3.5 BILLION years ago. 750,000 years is a fraction of a percent of 3.5 billion years.

As far as I am concerned: we simply do not have enough data to tell if this warming phase is due to the actions of humans, caused by solar cycles/variations, or is simply a natural, cyclical, fluctuation of Earth's climate.

There is no doubt in my mind that the greenhouse gasses produced by humans play some role in the warming, but are we the sole cause? Highly unlikely.
