self refilling water tank ?!?

hi guys !

this year i would like to try an automatical watering system for my balcony chillies and i came agross something using a water tank.

now, the deal is the follwing.

i want to know how i can automatically refill the tank without it overflowing.

i basically wonder how i can rig something to open and close the water line to refill the basin
without me doing anything.

i remember seeing systems with some sort of a "Floting disc" that triggered a shutting/opening of the valve at a certain level or something,
but i am a complete newb so please help me out, my chillies will appreciate ! :smile:

bascially something like a toilet tank i guess !

You could use a toilet tank, just glue the flapper closed so you don't accidentally dump the tank. Or use the internal parts in your own tank.:shrug:http://www.friendlyplumber.com/plumbing101/toilet_parts.html . . . :goodluck: with the balcony chillies . . . :peace:

thank you for the link, oh and its indeed chillies and various sorts of mints, plants, veggies.
i quit ganja couple years ago :thumbup:

only problem i can see is that i would not have a overlow tube of any sorts and i cannot drown the poor people below me lol

i really wonder, will those floating things really SHUT it tight ? provided there is not to much pressure on the waterline in the first hand of course !

as i said before, i would not want to drown the people below be because all of a sudden this thing overflows !

Yeah they really work. After being in the aquarium industry for about 9 years, I've seen my fair share of float valves. I've only once seen one fail and it's because some dumbass bent the arm going to the float and it got stuck in open position (float was underwater, couldn't float up).
