Spores in the netherlands
    #9734464 -

A friend of mine is on a trip through Europe, including Amsterdam. Being a past Argentinian Cubensis grower, my interest arose because I deem my spore-prints to be too old by now to have any success. They have been kept at room temperature, only in a ziploc baggie for around 2 years.

So, my questions are:

- Do you think I have any chance to fruit those spores, even though I am not so sure my methods were clean enough (or perhaps overtly clean)?

- Those of you who know about amsterdam, which readily available strain of shrooms -Cubensis or any other- do you recommend me to ask him, considering that:

a) I have only grown Cubensis on rye twice with moderate to good success.
d) I only gave him 25 dollars/20 euros.
f) He'll buy the spores and keep them in is bag for at least 2 weeks before arriving home, which may be very destructive for the spores (any suggestions to avoid this or am I just paranoid?).
b) I haven't got enough money to provide for a particular shroom's overtly special needs.
e) I like both exhuberant and rapid fruiting, but favor the latter.
c) In a month and a half begins autumn.

Oh and by the way, anyody knows of some average cannabis seed strain he could buy that isn't costly and just for your average appartment "flowerpot"?

Thanks a lot in dvance for your replies, I know some of these questions have already been asked but not with all these variables. I know this is the best forum anyway... Bye!

You should try the spores, it's been said that spores can last many years if kept at the right conditions. My suggestion to you is to use an inoculate loop, scrape some spores onto  an agar dish and watch the little fellows grow. Don't underestimate the power of spores.

Or make a syringe and let them sit in the syringe for a couple days to a week and then use that to knock up some jars. Or shoot the spores straight into a LC jar.

Thanks a lot Starrider and JustJane! Given that I haven't got enough time to try this, I have decided to take this chance and still ask my friend for some new different strain of spores, so:

Those of you who've been to amsterdam, which readily available strain of shrooms -Cubensis or any other- do you recommend me to ask him for? Please consider:

//Forgive my repetition but in my experience people don't scroll up too often. I will try to fruit my spores anyway but since I have the chance to have another one... Thanks a lot for your attention! bye!

I think you have no real idea of just how sturdy mushroom spores are.

1) Your 2 year old spores will in all likelihood be fine.
2) Your friend could carry the ones he's getting around for months and they'd still be fine.
3) 20 Euros will get you a spore print, everything else is a ripoff and you should order online instead.

What do you mean by "In a month and a half begins autumn"? I grow them in the middle of winter. I am sure your place has heating, no?

Listen to GK, I've read reports of 15-20yr old prints being used to successfully inoculate agar in petri dishes. Don't get rid of your prints.

Ask for some pan. cyan. if you want a good strain of mushy.

As for the MJ. White Widow, G13 Haze, and AK-47 are all easy indoors that produce amazing bud.

From what I've read around here this may not be the best idea as it's hard to spot contaminants in LC. If you're in any doubt about the sterility of the spores I would say your best bet is to get them started on agar. That way any contamination will become apparent early on so you won't waste more time than necessary. Also, even if you DO find a contaminant growing on the agar it is possible to seperate the healthy mycelium from it by transferring a section of it to a different plate.

Maybe you can go and visit the Free Spore Ring Europe, which is based in Holland.

They will give you 1 print for two euros.

You'd have to email them and ask them if they are ok with either someone paying a visit or them sending a print to the hotel.

You claim not to have time to do an Agar plate or start an LC but you have time to wait for your friend to go to Amsterdam and vacation and then come back home?
Make yourself an LC, It doesnt take that long, actually about a week and you should be able to use it.
As for the agar plates, well if you dont have the equiptment then dont even try it.
If your LC contams, you might want to try to grow out some mycelium on agar and isolate it from any other contams.
Oh and there is a thread here somewhere about some 30 yr old spores successfully being grown out. A couple years isnt anything to worry about.
