help with problem of violence.  really, it is never acceptable and always childish.  what if you got the shit kicked out of you everytime you made a mistake?  Sooner or later you stop learning and start turning.  look at our country.  Do something wrong, even drive faster than they want you to and BAM, they fuck you.

This isn't "everytime" he made a little mistake, it was a circumstance that deserves it...premeditated theft, and from his family none the less.

He let the kid stay at his house and instead of being thankful, the kid took advantage of his trust and stole from his cousin...

That definitely justifies and ass beating IMO.

If I stole shit from someone, I'd expect to get my ass kicked if they caught up to me, and I would take it like a man knowing that I deserved it...

just don't talk to the kid, why beat his ass?  eye for an eye, that's always productive, if you're the church.  Maybe the OP needs to be a better judge of character and not give keys to his house out to people?  Kick his ass so next time he can really get you good and then you will never see him again, well thought out.

because what he stole was really of so much value in life?  if discommunication isn't enough and you feel it is a must that violence be inflicted for justice to be served, you should be a cop.

Besides if this is the type of person who would steal from you as a friend then what's to say that after you "beat his ass" he doens't return to your house at night in bitter rage and murder you and your family?  I can see how $100 worth of weed is worth it.  People are unpredictable and you never really know what somebody else is capable of but when you wake up to your sheets on fire because this guy with a key wants revenge for his beating you may wish you had just been an adult and let it go.

If you still feel a need to prove yourself through violence at this point in your life sounds like you might have got your ass kicked for some stupid stuff.  "OM"

Principle. Not standing up for yourself because you're afraid of retaliation is just cowardly.  It has nothing to do with physical violence as much as it does respect.  That friend didn't respect him and even asking for the weed or money back won't bring that respect back.  Fuck the weed, he stole respect.  It can be resolved without violence, but noone will ever respect a coward.

Thats cool and i agree its good to stand up for yourself. The reason i don't like it is that people will rarely pick fights if they don't know that they will win. I saw this documentary on chimpanzees once. The guy who was researching them said that chimps are very good at analyzing whether or not they can win a fight, if they think there's a chance they won't win, they won't attack. Humans are the same in my experience. Its usually not fair, and often ends with someone being beaten unconscious who doesn't deserve it.
