The Lonesome Sound of the Train...
    #961875 - 10/15/02 02:51 AM (19 years, 11 days ago)

There are some train tracks a few miles from here, and several times a day, a long train will come buy carrying lumber and assorted timber products off to Santa's Workshop, so the elves can make toys for all the good little boys and girls...

My favorite time is when the train comes buy late at night, and you get to hear that lonesome horn off in the darkness, and you can hear the distant rattle of the cars on the tracks. What is it about the sound of a distant train in the middle of the night that sparks the imagination and makes one kind of emotional? I don't know, but ever since I was a child, I've always loved that sound!

PS: I went outside a little while ago, and I heard the sound of scuttling claws on loose tree bark, and I looked over to see two raccoons climbing up a pine tree about 5 feet away from me. They froze when they heard me, and they just stuck it out halfway up that tree silhouetted in the moonlight. It was pretty cool!

I caught a family of raccoons on the back porch yesterday night trying to steal our pear-apples we just harvested. They were pulling out of the boxes and eating them right there and leaving the cores all over. I tell you they?re brazen little fuckers, but they make me laugh!

Ever wandered over when you were tripping? would be a pretty awesome site 20 feet from a train flying by.

No, I just relocated here, but I'm sure it's something that will happen. We used to walk on the railroad bridges in Santa Cruz, CA, at night while tripping quite a lot. That and go climb on big rocks out in the ocean at panther and natural bridges beaches!

The moon is waxing towards full again, and the moon shadows are starting to make a return. I like to walk out away from the buildings, at night, and chase them. They're fun!

Sounds like you've got the making of a good Johnny Cash song on your hands.

Well, i've lived next to some railroad tracks in my past. I have to say that it's fun for the first couple of times. But, when that shit wakes you up in the middle of the night....... that's when you start to think different. I imagine the place you live was quite 'affordable' ?

LoL! I'm out in the middle of the woods, and the tracks are several miles away. You have to be kind of quite and still at night to hear it. It's there, but it's not like it's rattling the dishes off the shelves or anything!

I've always liked the sound of trains in the middle of the night, just call me a romantic fool. I also like all the other sounds at night like the bull frog and cricket symphonies, and the strange chatter, and occasional banshee wails, of the raccoons in the middle of the night...

better in a cubbyhole in a tunnel 2 feet away! (dangerous?)
It seems to go bye eternally, I love trains, especially the powerful noise they make. Kind of soothing at night.
