or it could have been mild poisoning. don't eat any mushroom without positive ID first.

well, there is a difference between "tasting" and eating.
tastng is when you take a tiny bit of a mushroom you cant id but know is NOT DEADLY, and you taste it and spit it out. all of it.
eatng any unknown mushroom is pretty dumb.
they dont sound good.
no "active" mushroom has brown spore other than a few you wouldnt be able to identify without lots of help, or a microscope.
very few mushrooms are blue.
was it a purplish hue?
cortinarius mushrooms are the single largest genus, and are rampant everywhere and are deadly, for the most part.
they have a webby veil, rusty brown prints, and usually grow on wood. they are often purplish, some are downright vividly purple.
please be careful.
get a camera or go to the library or kinko's or SOMETHING and get us a pic.

There is the occasional blue mushroom out there. I found one the other day that looked very much like a ps cyan/azure, only the spores were the wrong color and the entire mushroom was a light baby/sky blue. I'm thinking it may be a stropharia aeruginosa, but i live in bellingham washington and I can't find out if those grow here. Anyhow, there are blue mushrooms out there, but none that I know of are active.

Did they have gills ?
If not, they could be some specie of Boletus, some have a bluish/greenish color when bruised or with age. They don't have gills but an hymenophore wich looks like a sponge.

hey david, here we are at a subjective term : blue.
i find that most mushrooms are actually purple rather than blue.
i cant think of one thatis blue, except for the species you mentioned, and it is striking for just that reason. i have found aeruginosa in astoria, up on the hill wit the tower. thats pretty close to you, i would think you would get them up there.
cant i disclose the location of non active species on the boards?
