Should I get help???
    #9623519 -

So I was browsing the shroomery and someone was describing their schitzophrenic episodes and I thought "that doesnt sound crazy that sounds exactly like me" and then I remembered how fucked up I get sometimes and did some research.

As it turns out I exhibit many symptoms of schizophrenia and occasionally dissociative personality disorder.

I have thought for a while that I was just manic depressive because I have two very distinct moods brought on by opposing thought processes, but now I think I might have some serious problems.

Listen I didnt come here to bitch and moan I noticed that there have been cases of people "developing schizophrenia" what I mean is that it gets worse and worse with time.
Is this something I should worry about?
I have noticed that I become more and more introverted as time progresses.

As of right now I can still function and maintian an easy 4.0 average in college but this just got me worried.

BTW I have never been to a psychiatrist unaccompanied by a parent, and when I was young I did not have these problems so this is all my speculation.

Should I go seek professional help?

couldn't hurt. Also, i believe it is a disease that worsens with time. The sooner you can get on meds the better.

If you don't have it, then you can get help for the symptoms you seem to be having.

BTW, try posting this in physical and mental well being, you may get some good responses there.

you have no way of knowing without consulting a doctor and anyone who would recommend you stay away from the doctor with such little information is not worth listening too.

If you are asking a pro-drug message board if you need to see a doctor, that's a sign you should ask a doctor the same thing you're asking the pro drug message board...

shit is supposed to get stranger you just sound like you want to slow down.

In these times its something you have to deal with, its your concious you made the decision to bring it there now just worry about life rather then your episodes or who knows...

fact is most people worry about things that wont harm them the point is no ones going to tell you what to do.

when you know you know.

Are you smoking a lot of pot, Anonymous #1?
If you are, you should probably stop now.
I'm a schizophrenic and pot really enhances the schizophrenic symptoms

I cant argue there, but at the same time wouldnt meds get in the way of money?

#6 is right though smoking weed now would be adding fuel to the fire.  You just got to watch it burn then let it peter out mang.

being intelligent makes schizophrenia more likely.  lots of schizophrenics are crazy smart.

go see a doctor or call your schools mental health service if you can't afford it.  you got that backwards.  can't afford not too.  you don't fuck with your sanity...

The better question is "Do I and those around me feel I have a problem, or not?"
If no, then you're probably fine.  If the answer is yes, and you don't feel you can function, then seek help.

I didn't vote because your description of your symptoms is too vague to make heads or tails of them.

Let's just say that I am not a hypochondriac, I'm not stupid and I did my research.

While I agree schitzophrenia is out of the norm, I dont think its any reason to use medication.  Call me crazy.

this is tell tell sign numero uno pal (and kinda a granda one to boot)

people who 'get' schizophrenia are people who are otherwise very very 'normal' growing up...because this is one of those 'things' that do, in fact, only come into the picture later on in life (kinda how like alzheimers doesn't kick in until way later on in life)

for men it's generally late teens / early twenties

and I know for me - it was indeed late teens when the symptoms first began to appear, and they did in fact become more and more prevalent as time went on (I'm in my mid-twenties right now, and the doctors are just now starting to consider that this may in fact be a very real probability for me)

and I suspect that it very well *could* become a problem if it does indeed continue to get worse (as is generally the case) which is why I'm really going out of my way to make it very very clear to these people exactly what it is that I am most definitely going through, so I can in fact get whatever help I'm going to need when it does get worse (which, I hate to say, is seeming more and more certain as the years go on)

the last thing I want is to end up as one of those nut-jobs on the streets that talk to garbage cans an shit, and are constantly being shoo-ed off by the police because they are such an eyesore for the rest of the population

if I'm not going to be able to maintain a steady job ten years from now because my mind is just too far gone at that point - then I can at least hope to be living in some subsidized housing somewhere, having someone in a mental institution stopping by to check up on my from time to time...cause even that is still better then having to put myself back in jail every week-end for petty crimes just so I can get a little food in my system and get myself cleaned up (cause, sadly, I've actually know a few people like that, and I'm praying to god I never turn into that person)

it's better to get the help that you might not need after all, then take the risk of going without if ever you do  :craven:

I am basically in your same boat dude.

I'm kind of a suicidal DGAF personality so this may be why I have put this off for so long.:D

I already have a very difficult time holding a job, school is easy because I can remember everything, grasp concepts and can perform mathematics like a champ but other than that I'm pretty worthless.

I think I have decided to seek some sort of help.

Thanks guys.

You should only seek help if you feel like you might be needing it (if you feel sad, dissatisfied with your life, if you feel anxiety and can't work them out on your own), and not because you think you're schizo just because some symptoms are similar to what you feel.
It is really hard to say, but from your story it only seems that you became worried after you read some articles on schizophrenia.
If you could offer more insight and details about who you are, then it would be easier to tell.

Not being able to be dedicated to a job doesn't make you schizophrenic, and it doesn't mean that you need professional help for this, as this action alone will give the whole situation more baggage and importance that it has. What about trying to fix things for yourself first? The satisfaction that you get from it is amazing.

#10 is potentially right. I had some rather nasty anxiety for a couple months, and that made me feel like I was "going crazy." In the end, there was no need for medical intervention.
