What about when photosynthesis first evolved and released oxygen into the atmosphere, totally changing it's original composition (it was mostly ammonia gas) and killing almost all life on the planet in the process? Everything was going just fine until photosynthesis showed up. I demand justice for all the murdered bacteria.

Look up Permian/Triassic mass extinction.

Either way would be good, I think. Sooner or later, all tigers naturally die, and their fur is still pretty much the same fur. Of course, once it became possible to actually reduce their population numbers in certain areas in order to continue the livelihood of the species, then I'd imagine younger ones with better quality furs and meat would be picked off. :lol:

At least, that is how I would see it goin' down. :grin:

What impact on the biosphere would result from the extinction of tigers?

If this would provoke a chain reaction that inevitably dooms the human race from an escalating extinction of species, then of course I do not support the skinning and/or consumption of tigers.

However, if the only reason one can offer against such a thing is that a single species is wiped from the face of the planet, I see no reason not to (although perhaps we should save a few in a zoo merely for historical reasons).  Viva la profit.

The human race is doomed regardless. We have been nothing other than a cancer to the face of this planet. Without us, life would most certainly flourish, maybe the way it should have.

There is no 'should' when it comes to the planet.  It always bothers me when people say that humans aren't natural; that we're a cancer.  No, we're natural because we've evolved to be right here, right now.

Obviously we can make decisions either promoting the welfare of other species or denying it.  But there really is no categorical imperative decreeing what is right and what is wrong for the planet.

When I say this, obviously it is my opinion, and I mean no offense. But we don't fit. Our so called evolution has given us a trait, that we have believed to be beneficial, but in the end, will only lead to our demise...

abstract thought. Greed. Our brains developed, as our defense...In doing so, we have emotions, both good and bad, but what i believe to be the key to our ultimate demise. Most creatures on the planet are only concerned with survival, and live by instinct driven paths. We, envy and covet power, and pleasure. Once we obtain these things, we suddenly want more. Nothing is enough. Sure, there are plenty of more enlightened people on this planet, but they are most certainly in the vast minority.

Cruelty is relative to the oppressor and the oppressed, no?

Humans have been greedy for thousands upon thousands of years; I don't see this really contributing to an immediate demise of the human race though.

I'm mystified by this statement. :grin: This implies that humans are a round peg that evolution has been trying to hammer into a square hole. I just don't see it, but perhaps you would care to elaborate more as to why you think we do not fit, as well as what exactly we are not fitting into?

I think you're anthropomorphizing humans just a little too bit, you know? What is to suggest that these manifestations of human experience and behavior aren't firmly rooted in concerns of survival, and that they are simply the playing out of instinct-driven paths?

I dont know if this has already been said, and dont care if it has really, but i was thinking about this last night while trying to sleep and reached the conclusion that if you start commercialising the idea of saving species, then only the species that ensure the most profit will survive. Evolution was not based on profits, but survival, hence saving some species for economic means will just fuck the environments butt even more. :shrug:
