I think I might buy the parents a Wii
    #9581006 -

My parents are starting to get old, they have the classic empty nest syndrome (both me and my sister moved out). I want to add some spice to their lives. I'm thinking about getting them a Wii. It's been proven that older peoples can have fun with a Wii. The only thing I worry about is that my mom has severe arthritis in her thumbs and might not be able to use the joystick.

Do you think a Wii would be beneficial for a 50-something couple? Think the arthritis might be an issue or would it work? I've only played Wii twice in my life, so I don't know too much about how it works.

I only want the best for my parents and think they will enjoy a Wii. A buddy of mine got one for his dad and mom last year. His dad, mom, and younger sister play the shit all the time. I want the same for my parents. They've done so much for me and I want to pay them back in SOME way. It might be a small, inconsequential, gift, but I only hope they will appreciate it.

Do you think your parents would enjoy a Wii? I'm seriously thinking about talking to my sis an splitting the cost of a Wiii. I know she'd be up for it.

WHAT SAY YOU, SHROOMERY?

If you think they'd play it, then yeah that's a cool gift.  I'm sure even with her arthritis, she could just pick and choose which games worked for her.

I know for a fact if I bought my mom and her husband a Wii, it would just sit in the box collecting dust.
My dad and his wife on the other hand, are avid gamers

I vote yes.  Nintendo seems to cater to the older crowd in my eyes.  Even as a kid, my parents were playing NES more than I, and they were the ones who taught me to do such things as obtain the 3 whistles in Mario 3, use a Game Genie, secret warps in Mario 1.

I think they'd enjoy it a lot.

No matter how many hi-tech video games I try to get my dad to play he reverts back to playing Warcraft 1.
You may ask: Have you tried getting him to play WC3? SC?
Even Warcraft II is too much for him...

My stodgy in-laws loved playing one that was a Christmas gift for one of their grandkids.

Go for it!

Id go for it. Dude 50 something isn't old.

I'm very sure your mom would be able to play a lot of games on the wii. There's so much stuff for the wii.

She could play some kick ass mario driving games with the wheel which isn't big at all and weighs nothing and works without that much effort. Just one example.

They got that new wii fit now that your dad can use and maybe your mom for short periods of time. You'd be surprised how much of a workout that thing can provide.

Sounds like you have cool parents though and genuinly care about em. Damn that arthritis cause Ive seen people with it and it doesn't seem nice.

I'm waiting for someone to tell you that the Wii sucks and you should get her a 360.
