standard version of planet earth..

i got the bbc version of planet earth for xmas. Was wondering is this quality still good? or should it only be watched in hd. i kinda wanted to watch some tonight.

It's worth watching no matter the format, HD just makes it much more pretty.

All of Planet Earth was filmed in HD. The only difference is the narrators. The BBC version had David Attenborough as a narrator, the Discovery Channel version had Sigourney Weaver. IMHO, the BBC version was MUCH MUCH better. David Attenborough actually gets into it and has some passion in his voice where as Sigourney Weaver sounds like a robot.

If its a DVD, it will be DVD (standard) quality, unless you have some player that upconverts it to HD quality, even then I don't know that it will be HD quality. Your best bet is buying the Blu-Ray discs.

You can watch it in any quality, but HD quality is shit-your-pants amazing.

The difference in my eyes is as clear as night and day between standard and HD, but to the OP, yes its awesome. Make sure to checkout "The Universe" as well, both paint a really cool picture of the world and the world above us.

As someone else indicated, its dependent on viewing distance and screen size. I can easily tell the difference on my 50" TV. 42" is about the threshold, below that it's difficult to tell standard VS. HD.
