Want to Case but there are pins
    #949703 - 10/10/02 01:06 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Thats my problem, I want to case with 50/50+ but there seems to be a couple pins forming already on the poo, should I rip them off and case or just leave them?

Now if he were to case it, would he put it in the incubator or in the fruiting chamber, i'm guessing the incubator, but what about them pins in thar?

The raccoon uses a casing run of generaly 5 to 7 days in the dark - without forced air exchange (cling wrap over the top of the tubs, w/pin holes poked into it).

A lot depends on the amount of substrate & % of spawn that went into it & what type casing material & how thick it is. Bigger batchs & thicker casing take a while.

Casing over pins can abort them. Which could lead to them rotting. Or, he could simply remove them. All in all, a matter of a few tiny pins -- is no big deal. If the surface is fully colonized, I would gently remove them with a clean box cutter blade & case.

I had this exact situation with a bulk substrate that totally covered in pins
I applied a thin casing layer and they all grew out just fine.
I didn`t incubate after casing
